When the deer season is over do you guys like to bring out your "bows of years past" and shoot them and rekindle those hunting memories with them.
I like to shoot one bow exclusively for a couple weeks now and not compare it to the other bows speed or smoothness, but just appreciate it for what it is.
I am an avid longbow/Selfbow enthusiast, BUT I do have eight bear recurves from the late 60s and early 70s. I find myself gravitating to these older recurves after the season. After shooting them and remarking on their smoothness and beauty I promise to hunt with one or more of them next season, only to grab my beloved longbows come late september. My bows must be getting tired of my empty promises. LO L
Yep. After deer season I shoot a few of my old stable and decide which I will use the next season. Gives me lots of months of practice.
Yep, I shot my 47 pound Grooves Spitfire, great shooting bow. I can stack arrows real tight with it. Then I shot my favorite longbow. I like longbows and I am going find somone that needs the Grooves, so I only have longbows on my rack.
Definitely the experimenting because I'm bored time of year. I like to string up several bows and shoot one arrow out of each back to back to compare draw, noise, feel, etc.
It's a rhetorical endeavor but what else am I gonna do right now?
Yes,
Once I hang up my hunting bow, I string-up my indoor league longbow and 3D longbows and shoot them. At one point during the year, I shoot all my bows (don't have that many).
Today I dusted off my (1992) Big Horn 58# @ 27" 58" It shot really well. I've shot long bows for the past 15 years plus... maybe it's time to start hunting with a recurve...?... maybe...
I broke out my ol bear Montana yesterday, it's a great bow but took me a little getting used to after shooting my recurve all year. Had fun though.
Even though it's cold outside most of the time now, I still keep my old Bears dusted. Just like them. Even the Steve Catts quiver is dusted. Maybe it's time to fletch up some arrows.
I dusted off a couple this past week...a '56 Polar and a '59 Grizzly
Besides my Groves Spitfire, I just dusted off my Turkey bow for the winter Jersey hunts. I put some Snuffers on my old SuperCeedeers, put them in the Catquiver, loaded up my old Schulz Backquiver with some 2117's....with Schulz Hunter Heads...and we are now ready....
Turkey bow..50" 55# Browning Cobra....
