went out yesterday morning for a few hours and seen three, one was a nice ten pointer.
but I only have a doe tag, so he was off the menue but it was good to see him.
then went back out for the last couple hours of the day, and just as I stepped from the truck I seen one up on the hill moving towards me down thru the valley. I started towards the bottom where I could get a shot.
I got close enough, but for some reason I just didn't shoot, then the wind gave me away.
so on to my stand I went, sitting in the stand im watching the thick area where I thought the buck had bedded, and at 4:30 I see him step out of the thick stuff just long enough to see him.
then another deer body in the distance.
nothing real close, but a nice evening in the stand.
so comes this morning. seen two as I was leaving the truck, one was a little buck I think.
it was soooo quiet on stand .

we were getting light snow on top of what we already had on the ground.
I was in my stand for an hour when I seen a deer step out from under the cedars.
A DOE...but she wasn't coming my way, she was 70 yds. away and moving away from me.
so I gave a soft grunt with my voice, and that got her attention enough to bring her ten yds. closer, then she started drifting away from me again.
so I gave her two more real soft grunts, and shes on her way.
closer.......closer.....

she started out at the bottom of the hill.
then she was about 6-7 yards from my tree.
close enough for me..

the only thing that kept my arrow from going completely through was it hit the frozen ground on the other side of her.
(http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae69/arrow30_photos/S1200003.jpg~original) (http://s958.photobucket.com/user/arrow30_photos/media/S1200003.jpg.html)
in this picture you can see my arrow where it fell out the far side. between the little cedar and the big one.
(http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae69/arrow30_photos/S1200011.jpg~original) (http://s958.photobucket.com/user/arrow30_photos/media/S1200011.jpg.html)
she was clearing 15-18 foot when she made her death run. and I heard her crash within seconds of the shot. not a great blood trail but in the snow, you see stuff you wouldn't see in dry leaves and grass.
zoomed in from my stand.

like I said the blood trail wasn't great but, in the snow you gotta love it!

and then the pot of gold at the end of the crimson rainbow.

there are drawbacks of killing your late season does....they are pregnant.
I have some pictures.. if you would like to see them, just say so.
and I will post them for all to see..
Love the snow,nice hunt.
awesome love whitetails in the snow!!!
That is how you tell a story with pictures. I like it.
You know a lot can be learned from those pictures. That may have been a tough trail on dry ground.
Congrats.
congrats on a fine doe....I love tracking when the snow is on the ground!
:archer:
I truly love the snow also and late season way to close the deal!
Good stuff right there:) Congrats..
Congrats !!! :clapper:
Bill
I felt like I was on the hunt. Thanks
Great story, thanks for the pics!
What were the specs on the broadhead/arrow/bow?
And lastly, that is an awesome jacket!! What type of camo is that?
Congrats on your late season kill! She will taste the same, and she suffered much less than what I've seen yotes do to pregnant deer :dunno: Awesome post, that's how its done TG!
Doe kill. Snow kill. Love it. Thanks for posting. Congrats.
Congrats on a fine deer!!!!
How long would she have been pregnant at this time in your opinion?
Great hunt follow along. Thanks.

Exactly what I was thinking!
IOWABOWHUNTER, my bow is a 1969 bear grizzly, 56" 53#@28
arrows are 3555 goldtip blems with 100 grn brass inserts and zwickey delta 4 blade.
as far as the snow camo jacket..i bought three of them at a army surplus store about 25 yrs. ago for 4 bucks each. and gave one to my cousin and used one to modify this one.i cut a 6" section out of one straight down the back and sewed it in this one straight down the back to make it bigger to fit over heavy clothes. I have worn it several times hunting but never killed anything while wearing it....bet you wish you would not have asked now huh...
john146, id say it was during nov. pretty developed. you can see bone structure in the pictures.
Way to go great pic congratulations...
Great story love all the photos and commentary! Congrats!
Good deal thanks for the pics! I was lucky for some reason I didn't see a fetus in the doe I took on the 1st. Congrats on the doe!
 :clapper:
Great job on the doe, the pics, and the story.
Sweet! I can only dream of hunting in the snow. Maybe someday. Thanks for the pics and story;)
Neat story and pics. Nice doe and bow.
Well done all the way around.
Thanks for sharing. I just got a '66 Grizzly 52#@28" off the classifieds and I like your set up. Think I'll try the Selway quiver as well.
I love the Grizzly Bows. Congrats on your deer.
You got to love hunting in the snow. Thanks for sharing.

....pretty awesome pictorial of your late season doe hunt !
Late season snow on bow hunts are special ;)
Congratulations !!
Nice job on the hunt, and capturing it for the rest of us.
Thanks for sharing. many of us will never have an opportunity to experience hunting in snow like that. I can only imagine how quiet it is in those conditions. Well done. :notworthy:
Snow pics are the best! Congrats on a fine doe.
What a great story and pics. Congrats on the doe.
Congrats!! Great hunt!
Nice bow. What year is it? I can't tell if the glass is green or black.
If you are a stand hunter snow is great but if you like to spot and stalk, it's not so great.
Except for a short time it becomes noisy and tough to move on.
thanks Gang, it was a great hunt.
and im glad you all enjoyed my telling of it.
Lkh, it was a quiet snow, that's why I put my snow camo on. if nothing happened in the stand I was going sneaking around.
ceme24, its green glass.
Thanks for sharing!!! great story
Great pics and story, very well done. Don't take this the wrong way, but this is why I don't hunt does after the rut. Killing 2-3 deer with one arrow. But that's just me, to each his own. Congrats.

Thanks. I was curious. Our rut is so late down here that I have never killed a doe late where a pregnancy was discernible.
Again, congrats on a great harvest!!
great job
Grear hunt ! I wasnt as fortunate with my "snow" doe , it jumped the string or I shot high and dropped her in its tracks - no trailing in the snow . Great pic story !
Man that's cool... always wanted to kill one in the snow! Congrats on a great shot and a pretty doe. Thanks for sharing the story and pics... Really enjoyed reading.
Dang, I can't see the pics?
Oh, well, congrats on the doe!
Bisch
ya, thats a bummer.
apparently, photobucket has a limit.
I deleted a bunch of pictures but that did no good, it has more to do with how many times the pictures are viewed , and resets back to 0 each month on your account join date.
so it wont reset until my account join date.
wich is feb. 16.
the pitures are still there, they just wont be seen until feb.16. unless you pay for more bandwidth.
