Title: trip insurance?
Post by: Bear Heart on January 07, 2014, 11:23:00 PM
Have any of you insured a hunting trip? Good idea or waste of money?

My wife works in insurance and says only your non-refundable expenses would be covered.  She said it most likely is not worth it.  She also said if you have to cancel your flight you can get in store credit with that airline and for a $150 change fee you you can use that credit towards another flight for up to a year.
Hope this helps,
Ray

The insurance would be for the guided hunt itself.  I don't usually get these kind of things but thought I would ask around.

I haven't ever insured the cost of my trips but what I have done is purchase supplemental health insurance for foreign country trips.  My last trip - to Newfoundland for moose - cost an additional approx $125 for 2-3 weeks of health coverage including evacuation (I don't recall the exact details).  In my mind the cost of the trip is known and already budgeted while the cost of a hospital stay in a foreign country can cost a fortune.

My wife said if the guided hunt can be rescheduled that is what the insurance company would require you to do.
