Hi gang. New to the forums, have been browsing for quite sometime. What a fantastic community. After years of wanting to build a trad bow, I finally did so late last year after reading "Backyard Bowyer" so my journey is just starring. And so is my ten year old daughter. After being immersed in the Hunger Games books and films, she has taken a huge interest in archery. We went out stump hunting together recently for the first time. I was impressed with my new tool, and also with her excitement for the day. My dog was even involved. He would crash through the woods and find our arrows when we missed! How fun for all of us. I look forward to being a part of this community:)

Welcome and congrats, you are in for some fun times..... :campfire:
That's fantastic! Here's to many years and a bond that will never be broken!
Welcome! You going to have so much fun! :archer2:
Very cool!!
Welcome...I am trying to sort out what part of Canada you might be in from the vegetation...there are quite a few of us here from all across this wide land
DDave
that's great! Welcome!
My guess would be west coast and after visiting your homepage it appears you are from the Comox area...hope you got a chance to take in the North American Longbow Safari last summer
DDave
You bet DDave I am in the Comox Valley. Beautiful country here. Lots of blacktailed deer and blackbears, plus wild mushrooms and salmon. We eat pretty well around here! I am so brand new to this whole Trad thing, so I haven't been to any events of that kind. Maybe into the future.
Great start already there. You built a bow, went stumping, and got your daughter involved....not to mention joining up with a great group of folks here on the Gang. Welcome and enjoy.
Tim
Welcome. It's really cool to have your daughter involved isn't it? Mine have been involved for 10 years, but they also loved the hunger games movies. What I'm seeing is a premium price on 35# range bows when I see them for sale. I think that's somewhat influenced by kids getting involved. My friend Tim Cosgrove from Kustom King Archery was also telling me they had a run on their kids bows after the first Hunger Games came out.
The bottom line is it's all good.
Congratulations on finishing your first bow. Great to see you and your daughter shooting together.
Now that she has finished the Hunger Games series maybe she would be interested in The Ranger's Apprentice books..?
Welcome to the family! Congratulations on your bow building and taking your daughter out. My oldest daughter, I have three, is ten as well. I wrote an article for New Pioneer magazine after the first Hunger Games came out, and it is truly amazing how the interest surged across the nation after that movie...from buying kids bows, membership in archery clubs, requests for archer birthday parties, etc. I was talking with my Bear Archery staff manager the other day and they said they haven't made/sold this many bows since Grayling. Good for all! Again, we look forward to hearing more from you and your daughter.

What he said..
Very cool. I had days like that when my son was young and sort of interested in what the old man was doing. He's off now busy making his own living. I'm hoping we will fling some arrows again one day when he figures out life ain't all about just working.
Welcome to the trad world to both you and your daughter.

Welcome
Welcome from Michigan . :wavey:
Blayne Courtenay has a good club, Courtenay Fish and Game with a great archery section. PM me and I'll give you the names of some people that shoot traditional. I'm in Campbell Crik just up the road.
Thanks all. All the feedback motivates me. Will be taking my bow out for archery season this year. Haven't got the poundage figured out exactly yet, using the bathroom scale it came out around 45lb. I will probably add a arrow rest, some handle material and a finish of some kind. The whole process has been very enjoyable, not all that overwhelming, and rewarding. I can see how it becomes so consuming!
What is hunger games?
Hey jax , its when you arrow misses the deer .
cynical-ant , get a hold of Jock Whisky it will pay dividends .
Good luck on your and family`s archery adventure ...
There are girls in our town getting bows because of this Hunger Games thing. I have been asked to give lessons, but so far they all have gotten Mathews compounds. I have a compound free zone around my target, so I cannot do it here.
Welcome!

welcome!!!
Welcome to Trad Gang glad to see the kiddos get out
Welcome to you and your daughter from Oklahoma!
My 10 yr. old daughter has been joining me (and usually beating me) at 3-D shoots for about 3 years now and regularly brings friends. I'm sure the Hunger Games books/movies hasn't hurt the friends' interest, but my young 'un was interested in them because there was archery in 'em.
Either way, it's an irreplaceable set of lifelong memories we're building with our kids, by taking them afield with us.
Good on ya, for accommodating her interest and being a good role model.
