I'm thinking of building a TD recurve after I've gotten my feet wet by building a few recurves. I have a few questions for youse...
1. Is it possible to build multiple pairs of limbs for the TD, say a pair that's 40# @ 28" and a pair 60# @ 28"?
2. I've been reading tons of post from a few forums, and one post stated that the riser on a TD is basically a handle that doesn't do much. Forgive me if this is taking the post out of context, but I believe it said that the emphasis is placed on limbs as this is where most of the work is done. If this is the case, is it possible to make a riser/handle out of walnut burl? I think burl wood is beautiful, and would like to try it. But I don't want the bow to snap in half. Please share your thoughts with me on this one.
3. I saw a picture someone posted on one of these forums, and it looked like he had a Flemisg string that was wrapped from top to bottom, including the loops. Does anyone know where this technique can be found?
Well, I guess I'll save some more questions for later. Trust me, I have tons. lol Thanks to everyone in advance.

While the limbs do most of the 'work', the riser still endures alot of the stress. I saw a riser made with burl, but it broke when a bow bolt was installed. I think I'd shy away from it unless it is an accent stripe reinforced with fiberglass or something strong. There is a reason you don't see it much in risers. I'm like you though, I love the way it looks. Good luck, Mike
Risers take HUGE stress! Added strength like Bodork said is the best bet. When just beginning, you won't know what is strong enough till you bust a few. :) ....O.L.
=) Thanks for the informed replies, I appreciate the help. I won't be building anything until I get some books. I plan to get the 3 book set of "The Bowyer's Bible". Alot of people say they're really excellent books. I'll probably pick up a few dvds as well.
