wow...i never how expensive takedown limbs were until i started looking for the things...im looking at getting a lighter set for stump shooting/small game hunting/plinking (ya get the jest ;) ) but wow i wasnt expecting to have to pay the price for a brand new bow too :scared: (so maybe ill stick to my 55# limbs :knothead: ) but this finding leads me to wonder how many of you have ran into this? just wondering..and it seems like the fiberglass bow at the local shop rated at 45# seems a little easier on the budget too...what do you all think? thanks again for the advice and help :)
I think you need to learn how to make your own limbs, to your own desired weights. It's not Rocket Surgery as we used to say when I worked at a real rocketry place...
Yup...I would just buy a new bow...I like to just grab the bow I want and go shoot...never cared for having to switch limbs to be able to shoot something different.
And you are right, for not a lot more than the limbs you can have the whole bow.
If a bow could be switched (by design) with a set of limbs making a very short bow for blinds, I wouldn't mind switching just for turkey season, but still rather just have another bow
I have an ACS CX riser without a set of limbs...I can pick up a new set anytime for 750 bucks...plus shipping and exchange on the dollar...plus those limbs look a lot better with a set of Bob Morrison skins like the limbs I traded had...so better make that not a whole lot under a grand...bet you feel better about the price of your limbs now, eh

Put a wanted add in the TradBows there might be somebody looking to sell something that might work for you.
If you want more options in limb price buy ILF risers.
I have a bow, not ILF, with two sets of limbs. They are identical except for weight. The riser feels like home and I can change the based on quarry and circumstance. I made the deal for both sets of limbs at the time of purchase. Seems you can get a better deal that way.
Used is alway a better buy though.
I looked into a different set of limbs as well. Actually a set of longbow limbs. The difficulty is matching them up to the riser once it's already produced, getting everything lined up. At least that was the reason I was given when I asked why does it cost so much. Sounds like a labor issue.
I just shoot the limbs I have. This way my muscles stay used to my hunting weight, 53#. Good luck on your quest.

thanks for the advice everyone. i would easily learn how to make my own limbs if i had the space and time to do so. (i dont think my wife would approve of me setting up a hot box or glueing jig up with a newborn crawling around :p ) but its not to say that i wont try sometime down the road. but for now i think i will stick to shooting my hunting weight while looking for a lighter weight bow to come along or the opportunity to make my own limbs. thank you again for the advice :)
Go ILF, you won't be sorry.
I'd just buy another bow. Keep your eyes on the classifieds, a little patience will get you just about anything.

One of the good things about ILF set ups. Once you find a riser you like you can get limbs from $90-$400 new and from $50-$250 used. I have several sets, just got another set of Dyrad Statics. Have 2 sets of them now, gets me from 40# to 50#.......all the bases covered.
Other than ILF limbs, I too agree it is crazy pricey. So much so it seems like parting out a takedown bow will get you more money or at least make it easier to sell on the used market.
