Title: Spot Light for hogs?
Post by: britt on January 05, 2014, 06:09:00 PM
My son and I are going hog hunting in Mar. We plan on hunting at night in blinds around feeders. Whats is a good spot light for hunting hogs? And any advice/suggestions for hunting hogs at night?

I've got a light that shines down green. It will come on with a solar eye at dark. It is made by Elusive Wildlife. It works real good, but I'm not good enough yet to take them in such low light.

In just use my head lamp.  They typically aren't bothered by the light.  I find that what spooks them I sudden move my of the light which makes shadows move around.

You can order a light with a pressure switch on amazon for about $40. Put a green or red lens on it if you like.  Attaches to your bow easily with velcro or bicycle tube.

I also have the light Alexander described. But in addition i have their xlr250. Shine a green led that hogs cannot see. Has proved itself several times! Check me out at elusive wildlife technologies

Green is the way to go.  If you can attach then to the feeder legs with a dusk to dawn sensor that works good.

I use the head lamp method, off the ground or tree stands. I don't know how a light will work in a blind...

On a different note. If you are shooting carbon arrows, IMHO you need to use lighted nocks! They are great for seeing what happened and finding your arrow in the dark.

I bought the Illusive technology lite also for about $80 now I find almost the same thing in walmart for 10 bucks ! It doesnt come on by itself and it is white lite but you can put green or red  celophane over it .The guys we hunt with from Texas use drive way lites . You can buy some of these for less than $2 .We have used green and red we are leaning towards red now but the white seems to work also as long as its not to brite .

I have tried a green head lamp but every time I turned it on the hogs would spook.  I assumed because it was on my head they could see me or some bow movement.

Years ago we rigged up our bows with a thumb pressure switch on a little laser pointer just for fun.  It worked well but we never got serious enough about it to make it stable enough to stay accurate and effective.

We recently developed a flashlight attachment that seems to work well with the little LED lights. It can be used with or without our bow quiver. It can be adjusted easily, and has been solid in our limited testing. It' also out of the way, doesn't light up you or your bow, and won't alter how the bow shoots. It's not on the website yet but can be ordered by contacting us. The price including the LED light and one AA battery is $35.00.

I've been working on a setup and found an attachment system of Velcro and rubber that works great. It's normally used to attach a light to bicycle handle bars and can be had for less than $2.00 off the big auction site. Google "V2 LED Flashlight Torch Bicycle Clip Holder Mount with Adhesive Strap" and you'll have plenty of choices pop up.
