Last weekend, a good friend of ours came over for lunch. Knowing that I have had very little time to hunt this year and the freezer is looking a little grim, he showed up with a cooler full of frozen venison. This guy is a lifelong bowhunter (went to a compound when his longbow broke back in the 70's and never looked back), very successful but his family just doesn't care for venison so he's always sharing. Yesterday my wife put one of the roasts in the crockpot with carrots, onions, mushrooms, red wine and worked her usual magic with the seasoning - the smell of it slowly cooking tormented me all afternoon. Sat down to it around 6:00, mashed potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts - wonderful. About my third or fourth mouthfull I bit down on something that just about cracked one of my molars. I'm thinking "that's a heck of a bone fragment". Carefully felt around with my tongue and spit out a piece of expandable broadhead blade about 1/2"X1/4"! How I didn't slice my tongue open I'll never know. Just thankfull it didn't happen to my wife or one of my kids. Think I'll stick to my Zwickeys and Grizzlys.
Wowzer!! :scared:
Holy cow your a lucky guy! I've never heard of that happening before.
Wow, you were very lucky!
Man, that could have been terrible. Scary!
Yikes!
Yeah, I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I had swallowed it.
:scared: :scared: Wow! That is crazy...
I guess the "Rage" wasn't in the "Cage" if you ate it!!!
Must not have been a double ling shot it it ended up in a roast...unless it went thru the shoulder...glad your ok!

Glad your OK THAT could have been ugly.....
Wow, the thought of possibly swallowing that is terrifying! Glad you are ok.
Wow. U are one lucky man.
God was watching you my friend glad everything is okay with you
WOW! Uh.
Lucky, lucky on that one. Whew.
Tim

Wow, glad nobody was hurt! This is a good reminder why it's so important to inspect the used arrows and broadheads for damage.

That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking too!

I'm with you on the Zwickey's and Grizzleys. As a retired engineer, I tend to prefer the simple solution over the complicated one. I've read in several places that's the weak point of mechanicals - they tend to shed a blade if they hit a bone.
Same reason I don't like some styles of bleeder blades.they shear off against bone and who knows where they end up.
Glad your OK.
Wow, that could've been real bad .Glad no one was hurt.

That is exactly where my head was.
I was told about a deer that was shot last year. They found part of a blade in the ham. They were very relieved to have found it. what they found next changed how i feel about carbon arrows. Apparently, the deer had been hit on the hip bone, both the broadhead and the arrow shattered. There were carbon spikes imbedded in the muscle. If it would not have pricked him the finger, he would have missed it and fed it to his family.
Man! that was a close call. Glad it worked out well.
For several years I shot Bear Razorheads with bleeder blades. Even with complete pass thrus, those bleeder blades never came out with the arrow. Always had to find the pieces to avoid eating razorblades. There's better options for sure.
This makes cracking a tooth on bird shot seem pretty tame. I guess we all just became more careful meat inspector's.
I also used Bear Razorheads for years, but never with the bleeders for just that reason. The first time I saw a mechanical broadhead, I said to myself "that just doesn't look like a good idea" now I know why. I'm pretty sure the blade fragmented on bone and some lodged in the off-side shoulder.

Wowsers!!! Glad you did not swallow it.
Yikes!
What's that saying about excreting razor blades! :scared: :biglaugh:
I hope you didn't swallow the little screws before noticing the blades.
