The end of deer season is getting close....this Sunday to be exact. I NEED to be out there at least one more time, to clear my head, to clear the smells of the hospital from my nose and maybe, just maybe to kill a deer.
On Christmas morning, my Mom passed on. She was 91 years old and until December 8th she had lived on her own, helping to raise her great granddaughter. My Mom always supported me in my outdoor pursuits and instilled in me a great love and respect for nature. I visited her at least once a week and spoke often on the phone and she always asked me about my hunting and shooting my bow. I don't know if she really cared about the hunting and shooting, but I know she cared about me.
Tomorrow, my brother and I will finish cleaning out her house and we will bury her ashes next to my Dad on Friday. On Saturday morning I will take may bow and go to the woods. Deer and Turkey are both in season. Maybe I will get a shot at one or both. Maybe I will take a shot.....don't know for sure. But I will be in the woods with my bow in the quiet, alone for the first time in awhile. I NEED to be alone in the quiet, taking in the sights and smells of God's creation. I pray that it brings me some happiness. I know it will make Mom happy!
God Bless all of the members here and I wish you a wonderful New Year! Mike

My Mothers been gone for many years.
There's a special bond between Mothers and their children.
Go in the woods , she'll be smiling down on you.
Rejoice in the fact that her spirit will never leave your side.

Mike,
I am sorry for your loss. My mother was 69 and passed away on December 17th. She also lived on her own until November. We buried her ashes on December 23rd. She had a multitude of health issues that she battled until the end. I was with her when she died. I think about her all the time. She wasn't crazy about me killing deer but never failed to ask how my hunts went. Of course I would not be who I am without her.
I am planning a season ending hunt on Sunday. I just bought a camper at a campground down at Lake Monroe with walk-in access to thousands of acres of Hoosier National and Morgan-Monroe. I might see how it looks in this snow :)
God Bless. Take care and have a great hunt!

My condolences to you. My mother is 89 and still lives by herself and drives. I do not look forward to a time like yours. I went to Canada on a bear hunt the week following my Dads passing and it was very soothing being in the woods. Shot a bear the first night on stand and have to think dad was pushing the woods for me. Good Luck!

Sorry for the loss you've suffered and hope the "cathedral" of the big woods serves you well during your hunt. Lots of memories to relive and good times to remember. Clear your mind and enjoy them.
