Built my 2014 bow a little early this time.
Had a set of cool walnut lams I couldn't sell because of a couple knotholes about 1/4" , open holes not just knots....
So I patched with some sawdust ground off a scrap of same piece by taping the back, tamping sawdust in the open knot and soaking with CA(superglue)
Here are some pics after much sanding, spraying, and watching it come off the hanger and fall in the sawdust on floor!! LOL

The hole patched with sawdust and CA and ground as usual....
You can see a little sanding marks on patch, next time I'll handsand with 150 on patch...

And first 3 at 20 yds at the 3D target, it shoots same arrows as my 48# recurve. Bareshafted perfect with a little nock adjustment!!

Oh yeah, she is a 64" D/R of my own design, pulls 50.31 @28"
Still needs final sanding and resprayed, has a bit of sawdust in finish where she fell off the hanger!! LOL
Think she will do nicely for this year..... :bigsmyl:
That's a beauty! Congrats. Keep up the great work.
Man, if it were 50.33# I would try to buy it off you! Nice bow! Beautiful lams.
Looks good......
Real nice.
Kenny, she is awesome!
Those knotholes may be a safety concern in the layup. You'd better send it to me for five years of longevity testing before you risk yourself. Shoot straight.
Another awesome bow Kenny!
I have been working on a blank I got 3 years ago...not being a particularly competent or ambitious woodworker that bow has lots of imperfections...the thing is the bow is more mine than any of the ones I did not have a hand in building...I just decided today I am fine with that
DDave
That thing must throw a real hook to hit that deer like that facing 90 degrees from it. :biglaugh:
Love it buddy. That's a beauty for certain.
THats a sweet bow BUd. I like those veneers, and I already know its a great shooter.
wOW!
Great looking bow Kenny as usual!
Very nice, Kenny. Love the color in that Walnut. I like the styling you did on the riser, under the grip. BTW it's warming up to about -17 during the day here so don't complain. :bigsmyl: Chad
She's a beauty, with character :)
Thanks guys! I was thinkin brown glass and some primer camo before these lams sawed out with a hole in em!!

Very nice Kenny congrats, nice doe, bow and knife!
Cory
That didn't take long! Congrats....
I set up on the ground tonite in a fencerow between the timber they bed in and a standing beanfield. Just after sundown, 2 does crossed thru behind me. Then a doe and fawn appeared right in front of me according to plan.
The doe , sensing a plan apparently, turned and came in the brush with me, deciding to jump the fence about 10 feet from me. After clearing the fence, she stopped about 8 yards from me, quartering away I thought. I was at full draw when she cleared the fence, and swung with her to where she stopped. The arrow went right where I wanted, but as it turned out, she was more broadside than I thought.
The arrow centered her liver we would find later. She took off and I watched her out of sight.
I walked out to the site of impact, instant blood on the snow, so I followed it to another fence which she cleared and went into a large hayfield.
I could see she hadn't went down and had covered at least 200 yds. Not good! So I marked where she went thru fence and went home for 1.5 hours and then came back with bro. She went about a quarter mile on a liver hit with good blood all the way.
Good blood all the way, and she didn't bed til 30 feet from where we found her in another hayfield.
If in doubt- back out!!
 Good lookin bow & some fine eatin, Congrats on both! Great way to start off the new year.
Great job Kenny!
Beautiful job on the bow and congrats on the doe! I guess that bow is a keeper for sure already got blood on it
Well that didn't take long...way to go brother!!
Awesome, that's gotta feel great!
Congrats on a fine doe and bow!
Kenny, those are some of the nicest lams I've ever seen. Great work and good luck with her!
Good job
Way to go Kenny! Wish you had shot her while me and Noah had been there so that we could repay the tracking help.
Did you shoot her from the ground?
I guess if I would pay attention I would see that yes you shot her form the ground.
Congrats on fulfilling your quest to kill one from the ground with your new bow!!! :clapper:
I guess the bow works! Congrats!
Right on brother. Congrats.
Way to go Kenny, great job!!
David
What a beauty those lams are gorgeous!
Congrats Kenny! I know you have worked hard for a deer this season! this is just the cumulation of your efforts, and it just so happend with your beautiful new bow.
You may as well junk your recurve, it didnt do you any favors in 2013 lol. besides it doesnt fit in your boot very well.
FYI, I know someone who is taking doanations for junk recurves. :readit: ;) .
Congrats again, glad you were able to track her with your brother!
Congratulations on a nice doe with your new bow!

Congratulations Kenny!! Glad to see you are doing a little herd control.
It's eatin' me up that the season is dwindling away and I'm still hurtin too much to go out. Better, but still hurtin.
Great job! On both the bow and the doe

Awesome bow ! Congrats on the kill !
That's awesome, congrats! Pretty walnut too!
Great looking bow and congrats !
"THAT" my friends is how it's done. Build the bow, then go out and harvest with it. Just plain ole cool in an old school way.
Tim
beautiful looking bow
a fine bow and a fine kill! congrats, sir!!
Sweet looking bow Kenny !!! Congrats on the doe. :clapper:
Bill
Congratulations Kenny. She really crossed a lot of real estate on her final run.
The grip on that recurve you brought into camp was very nice, did you put that same kind of grip on this bow?
Thanks guys!!
Charlie, hope you get to feeling better!!
Tom, very similar grip, maybe not as much meat down low, I have a pretty fat hand and think it torques the bow at the shot with the heel of my hand. So I skinnied it up a little down low.
The doe surprised me, she passed up several good places to lay down and just kept going as far as she could. It was 20 mph wind, maybe she was nervous to start with?
Was glad I let her go for an hour and a half anyway, she might have gone farther yet, and she didn't make it to the 20 feet deep creek by 100 yds!
What a way to break in a new bow! Fantastic!

Congrats on the deer! This is making the urge to try bow building even stronger! It's so awesome that you built a great bow and killed a deer on your first time out with it.
That is a great way to start the new year with nice meat for the freezer
Congrats Kenny!
Congrats on the beautiful bow and the doe!
That's an awesome way to start the new year.
