Title: best Canada moose outfitter
Post by: sar on September 13, 2007, 01:52:00 PM
I'm thinking of a 2008 or maybe 2009 trip.  I'd prefer ontario because I would like to drive rather than figure out how to ship meat back if I'm fortunate enough to take a moose.
Any suggestions?

sar,

Have a talk with Jim Godden (Mississippi Lake Long bow) As he lives in Ontario, he would probably know of a good outfitter/guide to talk to.

"Big Dog" is another fellow you could talk to.

Actually I have only used an outfitter once. That was last year and I would not recommend that one. This year we are renting a cabin from a fella that guides bear and he is a bowhunter that is going to show us a couple of lakes to try.Since 1978 I have always been a do it your self kind of guy.
Dave (Huntit)I think is the fella to talk to.

SAR,
I have hunted with a guy named Bob Bearman in Nipigon, Ontario numerous times. I have hunted with several outfitters over the years and I must say that Bob is the very best woodsman I have ever seen. Bar none!
He gets 4 archery tags each year and takes about three hunters in a primo unit. Last year he was two for three with traditional guys. I was the "three" just because I was looking to better previous bulls.
Give him a call and just talk to him. He has moose hunters in right now so he may not call back until night time. 807-887-3801.

Saw a program on cbc a couple nights ago about biologists trying to understand why the Ont. moose populations are crashing. Some excellent footage of the biologists cornering a cow and her young, forcing them into the water where they could separate the young, and collar it. But befor they got them into the water, there were some excellent shots of the cow giving the biologists a couple good charges in the process.
