Has any one put a take-down in their carry on?
I dont think that you are allowed to put them in a carry on but in case that you meant a checked bag Absolutely, I took two of them to South Africa last year that way last year with no problems. Put them in a safari tuff takedown case inside a hard sided suitcase and packed clothing around them, worked great!
I hardly go on a hunt that doesn't involve at least one flight. I have checked bows and arrows on probably close to 100 flights with never a problem. I generally just have the td longbows in soft cases or a thin tube in the lower compartment of a roller duffle, arrows in a thin plastic map tube or shorter mtm case. Its really not an issue.
Thanks for the heads up. I put my riser and arrows in checked baggage in the past and put my limbs in my carry on. Just trying to avoid a mishap.
Take down in a hard case like a gun case. Something you can keep arrows in too. Only problem is they treat you as if it's a GUN. I've never had a hitch otherwise
TD recurves have been in soft cases in the middle of my luggage amongst clothing. Arrows in plastic tubes, same suitcases.
Once I put a riser in luggage and limbs in my carry-on. No problem.
I've seen folks go through a lot of hassle in international (Africa) airports putting bows in what look like gun cases. It is amazing how many different places such cases can get diverted too and how long it can take to find them.
I travel a ton and I would agree with the post on keeping your bow from looking anything like a gun. A hard case will just get you a bunch of hassle. Tube your arrows and wrap you riser in your luggage along with heads with the limbs in your carry on. No hassles doing it this way.
What Ragin Bill said X2. Never any problems.
I use a safari tuff case with my riser, limbs and other shooting stuff. Put it in my checked baggage and never worry about it.
