I think this could end up being a fun thread. What are everyone's New Year's resolution?
I'll start it....I've been dabbling with the trad bow since 2008 and its time that I go full time and harvest a deer. I went full time in 2010 but had a bad year seeing deer and never even had a shot. I went back to wheels the last 2 years to maximize shot opportunities but I think I'm ready to make the full transition.
My resolution is to be in better physical shape, enough that if given the chance I could hunt any animal in North America ( elk, sheep, you name it)
Recovering from Lyme has been tough, my bow weight dropped 5 pounds every few months. 2014 I'll be back to the old me!!
Happy New Year Trad Gang
x2...with the realization that with 2 metal hips I do have some limitations.
Scout more.
Get my knees replaced and get more physically fit.
I never get to bow hunt enough to satisfy me, so I want to work on that. Also, I lost 25lbs last summer and I'd like to lose more.
Lose 10 pounds, hunt more, I now have my wife shooting a bit......I want that to continue. And try to be the guy my grandson and grand-dog think I am.......that might take some work....lol! Happy New Year. :goldtooth:
Hunt for:
Elk
mule deer
whitetail
black bears.
Stop buying bows :biglaugh:
T  ry to take more kids hunting to put a smile on their faces!
Happy New Year
Get back into shape, and also shoot more consitently, spend more time with family. But I always want these things lol
This is the year I switch to wood shafts. Odds are really good on drawing a bear tag for this fall and I want to take him with a surewood!
I want to shoot a turkey with my longbow, oh and quit smoking. I'm going to save the money from buying smokes, and buy a bow instead.
2013 both shoulders surgery a lung infection no hunting for two years, very little shooting.2014 it can only get better. MIKE
Eat healthy, lose weight (again) and exercise for a solo DIY Colorado Elk hunt in September.
I want to finally get a little shack built at camp with a wood stove and some bunks so I can have room for guests to come stay without having to haul camping stuff with them.
Oh, and maybe have a baker style tent on the lower part by the river.
No more Frappes
Better shape
Shoot a moose
Exercise my old shoulders every day and stretch
Of course "loose weight" and hopefully see a deer while on stand. 2013 did not provide either.
I am going loose weight get in better shape shoot more hunt more.
Loved all your answers so far. Some good ones.
Mine is switch to wood arrows. I bought a big batch from surewood I can't wait to get going.
Yup, wood arrows. Been shooting them over and over with broadheads and quiver is all set up with them for a few more hunts this season. Have not shot a deer with woods for a few years, just carbon and aluminum.
unstring my bows after each use.
I've lost 10 pounds in a year. I want to loose 20 more as I turn 60 in 2014 to be below weight for my age and physique.
I'm also going to add more variety and consistency to my activity levels.
I'm going to apply for MT Bighorn Sheep.
I weighed more than I ever had when the season started..194 lbs. I'm down to 162 lbs. now...my normal weight..many yrs ago.
Walking up and down the ridges just about ever day does it...along with being too tired to cook when I get home.
My resolution..one of them..is to hunt harder and more importantly smarter. Go where I know I should instead of stopping short. It takes a lot more effort and is very easy for me to get tired and talk myself into "easier places"..when I know odds are better a little farther back or I've been over hunting a place.
Lose a bit more weight and get my diabetes under control. Attend more 3D tournaments. Then I want to develop hunting accuracy to 25 yards. Scout more effectively to better locate some of my stands. I have a particular bow in mind but that may not be doable.
I would like to loose a few more pounds and make time to hunt more.
Work less, hunt/fish more!
Control my target panic.
meet more women, shoot more bows, buy some land in the TX Hill Country!
Lose 10#, then multiply that by 5 or 6! :biglaugh: And to start a savings account as a hunting fund, so that one of these days, I can go on a guided hunt out-of-state.
God bless you all in this new year!
I would like to sell more bows than I buy, get down to two that I will shoot all year and hunt with this coming fall. Hasn't worked for many years but will try to accomplish it in '14.
Do more tent hunting in the back woods, a whole lot more.
1. Attend Barry's Bootcamp - checks going out tomorrow
2. Take an 8 pt or better whitetail with my longbow
3. Spend more time outdoors just enjoying life
Already lost 30 lbs....so keep it off and get the heck into the woods every chance I get. Whether it be, hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing. I don't care......just want to be out there more
Lay off the sauce and stop dropping my bow arm...
:archer:
Quit grabbing the wheelbow when I know I may see a big one. This past year I got a new honey hole that held some really nice bucks. I had them pretty much figured out and knew with time I would have a good chance at them. Well I was forunate enough to take two P&Y bucks but both were with the Wheelbow. Even though I have been shooting well I did not have the confidence that I would be able to seal the deal. Fact is I still have a very fond taste for big bones. Both shots were at around 15 yards:(
well fellas, mine is a heavy List!!
