Well, the season is winding down and some of you may have seen this other thread about the girls Christmas presents.
Mary and Morgans Tradgang Christmas present from Uncle Ron thread (http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=134406)
Here's where we started (Mary) about ten years ago:

We're fortunate to have a farm in the family that I grew up on and is still owned by the family. Mom and dad are still with us and live and work the farm at age 87 and 80. There's 70 acres of apples and cherries, along with 30 acres of swamp and woods. A creek runs through the middle of the farm and dumps into a cattail marsh. Just before the marsh is a little pinch point that's about 80 yards across. The creek runs through it and there's some wild apple trees (that were loaded this year) that have historically always had scrapes under them. Here's what it looks like:

Well, imagine that, there's a couple of young bucks in that pinch point. Hmmmm. Well, I keep a double bull popup blind in that pinch point (right behind that trail camera, so it's the same view from the blind-12 yards from that closest buck) for late fall/December opportunities. A perfect set-up for the young ladies. I wish there was room for both, but they alternate turns out in the woods with me. Here's Mary before she got her new arrows-she's got a vintage Browning recurve that slings an arrow nicely.

The girls share a camo outfit and next summer (after they've grown some more) we'll add another outfit.
Well, Morgan took her turn out in the cold and we struck out. It's tough getting into these spots in the late season because every noise is amplified by the lack of leaves rustling to cover/absorbed noise. Morgan was a real trooper though and we had high hopes that one of the resident deer were going to make a mistake. Even though we didn't see a deer, we saw a lot of tracks and some deer beds on the way in (sometimes the deer bed right off the apple orchard that follows the creek for 400 yards before the pinch point).

Morgan's still got a smile on the walk out. She's sporting her new Shrew Mantis quiver made for Ron LaClair by Art Vincent. She's also carrying her Dryad Phoenix Lite longbow. The sun is setting on this season, but I'm confident that we'll be sharing a story here next fall. (These two pictures were taken minutes apart and my camera will allow me to pick up every glint of light and it seems much lighter that it was on the walk out)

Here's some pictures of Morgan's bow that were on the Dryad website before she got it last Christmas (2012). Mike and Jason do some gorgeous work.

Last fall dad took a hunt on his own from the blind just before a snowstorm hit and this is what came in front of my vintage 1971 Bear Super Kodiak

Of course Morgan looks a lot cuter in that stocking hat than I do ;)

Just doesn't get any better! Congrats on a great day afield.

Good stuff Ray, I'll bet you're having as much fun as the girls. :D I predict that some day your going to have some bow hunting Son in laws. That'll probably be a requirement for Mary and Morgan.. :archer:

Very cool! Love to see the young ones out hunting with Dad.
Thanks for the heads up.

Way cool, Ray. You are blessed!

Wonderful pictures and story! It's really nice to see some great parenting. From the smiles on your girl's faces, you're going to have some hunting partners for a long time! :clapper:

Son-In-Laws hell....there is a whole squad of scruffy bowhunters who get to vote on their husbands. Those pretty girls aren't allowed to DATE until they are 30, right Ray?
-
What kind of young bowhunter would it take to impress these girls?
-
Nice, I have two girls also a little younger than yours but they already like to go hiking with dad.
-
That's great! Many stories to come!
-
Good Stuff Ray, Thanks for sharing!
-
Your dad sure don't look that old.

Yikes Roger. Kevin always told me he would get back at me for teasing him about his daughters and dating. Well we've got young Eric in Shrewhaven camp because of one of his daughters.
I believe your daughter Casey was about the girl's age now when she babysat my girls at one of the Graying MTB shoots when they looked like Mary in that first picture. Wow where does the time go.
I'm truly blessed with two fabulous daughters. Both are straight A students and have great friends. They also love to shoot bows and be in the woods. Ron is right in that I enjoy sitting in the blind with them more than hunting alone. :shaka:

Yep, the world is your oyster now. Son in laws to corrupt, grandsons and grandaughters to lead astray down the paths of the bow and the outdoors.
-
Remember the story about the knucklehead who chose Opening Day of bow season as his first evening over our house "dating" Casey?
I met him wearing my proper high and tight bow season crew cut, camo paint on my face, and a LaClair bowie on my belt. That boy STAYED scared. :scared:
They are all bad Ray. I say when the girls are dating age, we do the interviews about 5 days in to deer camp. :bigsmyl:
Ron and the Eric's can hold 'em down, The Greek and I can do the interrogating...
