I really enjoy a 1 or 2 piece LB with a slim riser. I'm curious what you all have found to be the best riser material for weight and absorbing shock. Big Jim used black glass in my last TC and I've been really impressed with how the bow shoots for me. I'm sure that our expectations and sensitivity impact it but I was actually expecting the shorter TC to be a bit "rougher" on the shot, I was wrong. Anything else out there that you guys prefer?
Little Jim, Centaur Archery, uses some type of Black Matter or Matrix??? and supposedly it is one dense material. Dang, there are so many great bowyers out there today offering so many choices. I wish I could try them all. Peace!
I think that micarta/phenolic is supposed to help. Also you can go with more dense/heavy woods. Personally, I think limb design has more to do with shock than riser material but the heavier material can certainly help. Adding a bow quiver would do more on the weight side of shock reduction than changing riser material.
I agree with the bow quiver. I only have one bow quiver at the moment and so when I've been switching back and forth between target practice with the BJ TC and Buff, I find myself really liking having the bow without quiver on there. It doesn't make hunting sense I guess given that it's quiets the bow, makes it more stable on the shot, and allows for a fast reload, but I just like the simplicity of it.
The two advantages I see to not having the quiver is that I can hold the light weight bow up for a long period of time just waiting for my opportunity to draw, and that fletching covers beat me down and with my feathers I have to have on on there if I'm using a bow quiver.
