So I have gotten my Christmas shopping done, and am planning on getting myself a present after the New Year. I am after a custom recurve and have been bouncing between a zipper SXT, and a widow PCH. I know that they are both great bows, and am going to have some very opinionated views on this topic, however I still want some feedback!
I have a 27" draw and looking for 56# at 27". I am thinking a 56" bow either way.
I am thinking darker wood combination on either. If I got with an SXT I would definately want a matching woodie bolt on quiver. With the PCH I would want no red or white and either a bolt on or side mount thunderhorn.
Please give me some personal opinions/experience,
as well as any pictures you may have that could ease my decision making process!
Thanks guys, and Merry Christmas!
I also have a 27" draw and have shot both. Still have an SXT. Fantastic bow! Of course its a personal decision and you may not like what someone else does. Mine is dark woods. Wenge and Marado with Bocote accent stripes.

I have both and as you said both are fantastic bows.
They have a different attitude though.
The Zipper is the quitest recurve I own, more than 100 in my stable actually, very smooth and fast; it is also very light and a joy to carry all day long in the mountain. The SXT is very fast.
The PCH is very stable having more mass weight in the riser, very accurate. I use more the Zipper but I wouldn't stay without my BW.
Buy both,LOL
just noticed this on the other side of the limb. both limbs are this way top and bottom. one side says 54 pounds other side says 52..hmmmmm

Bowkill32-I believe that the letters after the pounds are also different. Probably what the limbs scale on each model of riser. 54# on a SXT riser and 52# on a ZSR riser.
o ok i get it now, is there carbon in these limbs? love these bows but i am on the lookout for a pch, dont see no used ones much...
Yep, Hermon has it. The SXT risers have more deflex in them so they are 2 lbs heavier than the same set of limbs on the ZSR risers.
Great looking zippers guys. I really do like the fact that the Zippers are light. I have been hunting with a Thunderchild all season and it has been a joy to carry and shoot. However I have always been a recurve guy and looking for somehing new on those lines. I just seem to group better past 20 yards with recurves.
Keep it coming guys!
I have both the Zipper sxt with carbon foam limbs, and the Black widow pchx.My draw length is 28, My Zipper pulls to 45lbs,and the Black widow pulls to 47lbs. This is just my opinion,I believe the Zipper out performs the Black widow in quietness and performance. The Black widow pulls smoother. I shoot both bows with a strap on quiver.I would not trade either one of these bows as I like them both.I have a standard riser, that I am going to have Bill make a set of carbon foam long bow limbs for. That is how impressed I am with the carbon foam limbs.Hope this helps in your choice. If not you can get a Northern Mist from steve T. :archer2: Don
I have a couple of Zippers and a PSA, I have shot several PCH's. I don't think you can go wrong on any choice you make. I would try to shoot both before you buy.....only you will know what you like.
I have a Zipper Extreme with carbon and foam limbs. Bill builds one of the best bows available, and you could not buy a better bow. Mine is fast, silent, smooth, dead in the hand, accurate, [have I convinced you yet?], and hits like a hammer! Pull the trigger on a zipper you will not regret it.
[Dang I should get into advertising!] lol...... Seriously dude, they rock!

Boom, do you get a percentage of the Zipper? If not, it's time to give you a percentage! :clapper: If TradBrewSC not buy Zipper, I'll
you definitely wont go wrong with the zipper. I think they are the best shooting bows ive ever shot
Have not shot a Zipper but you can't go wrong with a PCH. Just got mine a few months ago LH 56" 52# @ 27" PCH V. Hands down the best short recurve I've shot to date.
I had a 64" SXT longbow for a while and it was a sensational shooter. They don't call em Zippers for nothing. It was incredibly smooth, you could draw the thing clear to 33" if you tried. Very easy to shoot well. Bill shapes an outstanding grip and the bow was 'just heavy enough' far as physical weight. I only sold it so I could try other things. They are a great bow. SXT has my vote.
I just ordered a PCH II. I sold off quite a few bows to fund it, and I prob could have went with any bow I wanted by selling a few more, but I always have wanted a new widow. Plus I sent my money before I had a chance to research any other bows, lol. When I get it, I'll let you know what I think.
I love the PCH. It is a real good shooting bow in short lengths and in my experience, quieter than the other models. Zippers are nice but i am not sure if you can go as short.
SXT all the way...I've been thru a ton of bows in my short trad life and the SXT has been with me the longest...it has all you want in a bow without sacrificing an ounce of performance...here is mine....IMHO

I have had a few of both, and I say Zipper SXT. Good luck in your quest.
Wow, great feedback. Seems as though we have alot of zipper fans out there! That is kinda the way im leaning at the moment.. I know eventually I want one of each, but really just dont know which one to go with first.
Lets keep the pictures coming.
Been shooting Zippers since the early 1990's. Shot Widows in the mid 1990's. Although I was shooting the Standard and Extreme Zippers along w/ the MA Widows(all recurves). There is a very distinct difference in shooting qualities in all 3 models. You should really shoot before you buy IMO.
I liked the Widow better myself. Put an SBD string on it and it's quiet with good speed. The Zipper may be a touch faster but I am more accurate and consistent with the Widow. Also, if time is a factor, the Widow will get to you much faster than the Zipper. This in no way should be viewed as disparaging against the Zipper, they are wonderful bows and as said earlier, you need to try to shoot both of them yourself.
