Title: Glove or tab better for short bows?
Post by: Zradix on December 23, 2013, 10:16:00 AM
Hey gang,

Never really tried a glove. I know many like them.
Just started with a tab and stuck with it I guess...worked good nuff.

Just got to thinking this morn...

Have any of you found either a glove or tab work better on shorter bows?
Thinking a glove might fit in the angle better.
In the end it'll probably be one of those "try it and find out" deals...

I've got a long (29.5) draw and like bows 56-60". I shoot a tab with the finger spacer so my fingers don't pinch the nock. Couldn't get a clean release with a glove.

Makes sense...
Didn't think about the nock pinch.
I do use a tab with the spacer.
To be honest, I'm not sure how much the spacer is helping..never took it out to try..lol

Keep in mind bro.... not all short bows have finger pinch.... but for the bows with a tighter string angle i'll bet you get off the string cleaner with the tab with a spacer.

I fell in love with tabs shooting 3D, but don't care for them at all while hunting. maybe it's just that i have spent more time shooting with a glove and the tab hasn't become instinctive yet.   :dunno:

I use a real soft leather glove that i can feel the string just above that crease in my fingers.
I tried for the longest time trying to shoot off my finger tips rather than a deeper hook, but i just could't get the consistency. every time i play with a tab, i always go back to the glove it seems....  Kirk

Glove might offer a little more protection, but the tab is likely to  give a cleaner release.  I don't shoot particularly short bows, but Like Kirkll, I use both.  I use a tab for target shooting, where I have plenty of time to get the tab on the string correctly, but a glove for hunting.  It's warmer, faster toput into use and I never have to look down at the string to make sure I have my fingers on the string correctly.

Neither. I use RPM slicks and bare fingers. I also shoot 2 under and pinch is never an issue even with my Super Mag 48.

Started with a tab and can't find any reason to change.  The few times I tried a glove it was UGLY!

Tabs have always seemed to work a little better for me.  I like being able to flip them around on the back of my hand and have my fingers free to do whatever.  Never felt the tab was slower for hunting, when it is cold I just wear the tab over a light glove. Nice and warm.

Tabs give cleaner releases.  That's why you see olympic archers using them almost exclusively.

Gloves are more convenient and better suited to hunting by freeing up your palm yet always being ready.  Also, with a glove you can cut the tips out of your favorite hunting gloves and have a well insulated hand with the exact same release as when practicing.  You can't use a tab over gloves and achieve the same release as without gloves.

I use the black widow palm tab.  It hangs on your wrist so is ready when you need it, but is out of the way when you need to use your fingers. Been using them for 15 year (They used to be made by NEET).  Awesome tab, especially in cold weather because you can shoot it with gloves on. That reminds me, I need to order a new one.  Merry Christmas.

I've tried several different gloves, but I always end up back with my plain old Screaming Eagle cordovan tab. It has no spacer. It is just s simple piece of leather that seems to work with bows of any length. I've used it with bows ranging from 56" to 66". When it's cold, I use a fingerless glove or a glomitt on my hand with the tab exposed. Usually, I just put my hand in my pocket with a chemical warmer though.

The glove I liked best was an old Duraglove, but I understand they have had problems with them of late. I also have an American Leathers Big Shot glove, but I can't seem to adjust to the thickness and lack of feel.

I'd vote tab.
