I picked up a used bow a while back. It came with a leather wrap, which I removed. The wood underneath is slightly discolored compared to the rest of the riser. I assume this is due to sunlight. Will the two woods eventually match or will there always be a difference?
I know someone will ask me what the wood is, and I'm not sure since I bought second hand (maybe I was told and forgot, haha). It looks kinda like Shedua but I don' think it is.
Other wood products that I have had that became discolored in that manner did not even out on the color. I would replace the wrap.
I bought a new quiver here and the only time I used it was in a light rain. The leather Dye has stained my bow. It doesnt bother me but It is very noticeable and usually a conversation starter. Its been 3 years and is still there.
I've had one that either the leather dye or tannic acid in the leather has reacted with the finish on the bow. I refinished the bow and when the old finish was removed, the wood was not affected.
Usually, the bow's finish will darken over time due to exposure to the sun. If it had a wrap on the grip, that area wasn't exposed to the sun so is lighter. Over time, quite a bit of it, it will get as dark as the rest of the bow if you don't put another grip on it.

Sounds like what I'm up against
No issues if it doesn't work out, but figured I'd ask
That discoloration is called character.
You could sand the aged portion of the riser down to the same color & refinish, or put the leather back on. If you put it out in the sun the darker part will continue to darken. I don't think the lighter portion will ever catch up.
