OK everyone I need some help. I just purchased a 43# Bear Grizzly and am very excited about it. I've been shooting with training wheels for the last two years and really haven't enjoyed it so I decided to get back into recurves and longbows. My question is this. Will this bow and poundage be enough to kill dear? I have never shot a bow with this low of draw weight but I didn't want to wait any longer and if I can get things set up I will use it in Iowa's late season. Give me your thoughts.
Absolutely it is enuf. Grizzly is a great bow, too. Are you wanting to shoot wood, alum or carbon? Broadhead options are huge. I like the Grizzly Kodiak and VPA/Woodsman types. Ace and Zwickey are right up there, too.
Yes. If you can hit where you're lookin', with good arrow flight and a sharp broadhead, I think you are good to go.
As long as you can hit where your aiming .
If you can put a well tuned arrow with a shaving sharp broadhead in the vitals of a deer, it will not go far.
Depending on your draw length, you will likely do well with a .600 spine arrow. Length is always a crap shoot and not enough info to even guess. Pt weight will also be more evident when we know your draw length.

I have cleanly killed several deer with that poundage with 2 bladed broadheads, using 1916 arrows weighing about 460 grains.
Sure it will. Pay attention to tuning, sharp - very sharp - broadheads, and accuracy. Plus, spend a lot of time on woodsmanship. Remember trad, unlike compounds, is a very close range affair. If you set up the shot well, you can have full confidence in your equipment. So don't worry about your gear, just go out and have fun.
Great Bow, You have received your answer above.
Go have fun.

I have a 45# Grizzly and shot a doe this fall with it. I use GT 3335 arrows that are full length with 100 grain inserts and 100 grain Stingers. I enjoy this bow a lot.

That's what I use with my 42# Grizzly.....1916 alum and Zwickey 2 blade heads.
I killed my first deer I ever shot at in 1969 with....you guessed it....a 43# Bear Grizzly.
Good luck!! Enjoy the new bow.
Bought my 43 pounder new in '68...took me almost 40 years to kill something with it!

Owl,
Thanks for your post - I'm going on 5 yrs and, while I've seen some interesting deer behavior, I have yet to connect with a trad bow. I was getting discouraged.
