It depends on what your use is.

They are essentially heavy canvas bag with shoulder straps.  They work great for storing a lot of gear in the bottom of a canoe and portaging between lakes. They are not designed for comfort. Usually what is done is one person will carry the canoe and the other will carry both packs, one on their back and the other on their front side to even out the load.

Was going to use it with my canoe. But looks like I may be into the market for a new one. Used ones are only $20 cheaper than new. For lucky and found this I've locally for $50 bucks. Someone beat me to it

Heck Keith,  when we went, I carried the canoe, a food pack on back and a smaller pack on front.

Of course, I just knew I was gonna die on that trip on our first real portage over a ridge.

I learned a lot that trip.

heres what i can tell you...i have had my pack for over 20yrs now, got it when i was 18. i've beat the thing to death....scouting excursions, canoe trips, packing out game in it ect. after 20yrs of hard wear and tear it needed some "patch work". took it to the factory where the hard working folks make these things by hand. told em it was my favorite pack. that the thing has seen more miles than some marathon runners. they patched it up for free with a smile on their face. they knew it was more than just a pack to me. they took pride in that too. perhaps a bit spendy, but again, you cant buy that kind of service.

In my basement is the canoe tripping room. There are a bunch of Duluth packs down there.  You may as well get a new one and start your own history with it. If my packs could talk.  How many rods is the Portage, Indiana portage?
