No deer were killed. But I sacrificed some hunting time last week to scout for late season food sources. Here in the midwest, if you don't have a really good food source nearby you ain't gonna see any deer during the late season. Anyway I found that the farmer had left some beans standing near the edge of the woods due to the fact that some trees had blown over in the field before harvest. A good snow and cold weather was all I needed to hunt the spot. Tracks in the snow revealed the deer were really hitting the beans now. I don't hunt field edges too often so I setup along some trails heading towards the beans. It almost worked. The deer headed towards the field in a single file line on a trail 60 yards to the north of me. 24 deer total! Considering I've only seen about 30 deer this season it was a hell of a good night! Good luck out there guys!
Sounds like a great spot. The most deer I`ve seen in one sitting in 5 years has been 5. not as many deer down here as there used to be.LLOOONG gun seasons make them love the night time.Stay on`m and I look forward to some success pics.RC
Can't wait to see the pictures after you go back Jon! Good luck to you sir!
I hear ya RC. Tonight is the most deer I've seen in one sit in years! Normally the deer are in places I cannot hunt during the late season because my areas don't normally have any late season food. But I've lucked out this year. I won't be able to hunt again till Tuesday but I know where I'll be sitting! Thanks guys. Good luck out there!
Good Luck Jon, can't wait to hear the story.
