Title: Wool Vest - Help!!
Post by: D. Key on December 17, 2013, 03:58:00 PM
I am in the market for a mid-weight pull-over wool vest with a hood.  Does any of the TG Sponsors make one?  I'm a short and kinda round guy and typically the sleeves are too long if the vest fits.  Seems I saw one on TG lately but can't find it.  Thanks.

G. Fred Asbell makes one. I think maybe Ron LaClair as well, but I'm not 100 percent sure. Ron might just have the hooded shirts.

I have a heavy grey hooded longhunter vest from Ron LaClair that is very nice.  It was made by Teresa Asbell.  Great product.  Check with them for availability.  And those Two Tracks vests look mighty nice, too.  I don't know if they are hooded or not.

I'm looking for a vest and not  pullover, as a normal pullover has sleeves too long for my short arms.

Call Fred Asbell, and his wife(Teresa) will make it however you want it. Check out their website for phone number & options.

Sure.  Weskits have sleeves that are detachable.  Common wear for us reenactors.

Check out the vest from "Silent Predator"  I picked one up two years ago and it is one of my favorite pieces of clothing.  Lining protects from the wind and two nice hand warmer pockets

My favorite vest used to be a jacket. Had a Columbia wool coat I never wore so I cut the sleeves off at the seams and wear the thing all the time now.  The male model types might not think it pretty but it's highly functional and I didn't spend more money on another piece of clothing.

Expensive, but quality second to none.

Sleeping Indian used to make a superb wool vest with a hood.   I still have two...one with wind shear & one without.  I also have KOM & Gray Wolf. The SI vest is the best with a tight weave and heavy wool...that is if you can find one.

For a lighter vest with a hood, I'd go with Theresa's...tippit

Exact same wool as KOM and SI but half the price. Just sewed in different locations. I've owned all 3 and will continue to buy Silent Predator.

I thought I saw a recent thread on TG showing a tan vest with a nice hood.  Anyone remember that thread about 2 weeks ago?

Unless you are talking about something different, a vest doesn't have sleeves.  If you mean a jacket, with an Asbell it would be easy to shorten the sleeves or I'm sure Teresa would do it for you.  She does have a zip front vest with a hood and it's a very functional item.

Tracker12 - I have heard that from other people as well who own the Silent Predator vest and pants. I may place an order here soon for both.

I'm not a hood guy, but I have a longhunter from Ron LaClair and I love it. Goes down past your butt and keeps your backside warm.
