I`ve decided to hunt the rest of the deer season from the ground and have had a bit of frustration but it paid off today.

The frustration has been having deer too close. I had a doe a week or so ago at about 6 yards,I started to put some bend in the bow and she stepped towards me and then behind a tree and was gone. Another day one winded me at 10 yards but today was different.
I was running late and eased in to an old blind just before "deer" time. I could hear Turkeys for a while. I sat a while and drew my bow a time or two imagining an old doe standing there. It was all I could do to keep from trying a squirrel just a few feet away when I heard a deer coming through. I love to hear that sound coming through the leaves. I was ready with my bow up. She hit the opening and the arrow flew true. I heard her run hard toward the swamp but did not hear her bust water which gave me a whole bunch of hope for a quick recovery. I was not disappointed.

She was only 75 yards away or so. The Grizzly had done its job. I did not take pics of the blood trail because the batteries in my camera were about dead and I wanted to save them for some "deer" pics. It was a small doe but one of the most satisfying shots I`ve ever made.RC

Nice shot RC . What was your setup.
What a great hunt! Congrats!
Awesome as always RC....... :notworthy:
Fantastic, there is no better satisfaction than succeeding on terra firma.
Hunting on the ground has become my preferred method. Ground blinds, natural blinds, ghillie suits........all good.
Thanks Guys.
My setup is a homemade stringfollow Hill style bow. 66" long and 50 something pounds at 27. I don`t have any bow scales,I just sand on it till I can pull it...2016 with 175 grains of Grizzly on the end. RC
"I stand till I can't stand anymore. Then any seat is comfortable."
"I sand on it till I can pull it."
Great RC quotes! Simple and true
