Title: another plaid picture thread
Post by: RobinHood1389 on December 16, 2013, 11:15:00 AM
Well its sunday. Time to relax, and keep the fireplace burning hot. I just ordered an asbell esb and now daydreaming of its arrival.
I love the classic sportsman website. Seeing all the plaids at work in the field. Whether it be with a bow, a fly rod, or in a canoe! Great pictures!
It got me thinking. I can do search on trad gang and find a million asbell wools with a bow in hand in the fields.
What about showing off those plaids (asbell, classicsportsman, woolrich, no names, etc...) While participating in our many other wonderful outdoor activities. Camping, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing,, canoes/kayaks!

Well Sir, since this is a traditional bowhunting site, and they are pretty strict about breaking that theme......you will probably just get stuff like this:

Buckeye...that was my first trad deer back in '01.... The shirt was a used pendleton I bought at a salvation army thrift or a goodwill store for a few bucks.   I liked the extreme contrast of the dark reds and light tans.   As George Stout used to say - 'Team Goodwill' lol.

The bow is Meg (as in Meg Ryan - she doesn't have the biggest curves but she's pretty).  :)   , Osage self-recurve I made same year from a split of a log Pablo brought back from the first Mojam.   Gawd I miss those days!

And I love hunting in my Dad's old Pendleton wool shirts that he handed down to me.  These two are nearly 30 years old...

Some pics from 2012 and 2013.  Don't ya just love how the industry tell ys that you need to have the latest, greatest and newest camo pattern in order to be successful.   :biglaugh:

Crispin, that second buck doesn't have a really big rack but his body looks HUGE!  Also like the plaid top you're wearing in that photo.  Is that one from Teresa Asbell?

You're right.  His live wt was about 200lbs. The pull over is one of Teresa's.  They perfect down here with just a base layer.

Thanks. It's actually two beanies... I cut the top on one and made it into a neck gaitor.  I don't know where they came from...they were given to me by a friend who owns a canoe operation called Paddle Creek.  Just a heavy cotton and acrylic blend I think but the camo pattern is kind of cool.

Duncan....I have a ridiculous amount of Woolrich. I wear the wool shirts all the time. They have one pattern that looks EXACTLY like oak leaves in the fall. Awesome picture!

Roger,
I'd like to see that one with the oak leaf pattern.
I've had several over the years but my favorite was a red and black twill pattern that is discontinued. I out grew it. I do still have my first one though. A little rough after me and my brother got done with it. Buttons are not original and the elbows had to be patched. Mom sewed up a hole on the back where I tore it crossing the barbed wire fence.
Here it is along with my quiver from back then. My other brother has my bow that went with the quiver. Got the Solengen steel hunting knife with 12.95 of my paper route earnings. Those were the days.
