Title: Arrows for 55lb longbow
Post by: Mryan2176 on December 16, 2013, 06:14:00 AM
I received another Don Dow stik last week. I love it, pretty and shoots very well. Only problem is the arrows i have for my 50 pound stik are too weak. I was shooting heritage 150's with 250 up front. They flew great.  I want my next set to weigh around 700. Would a cx 250 with 300 upfront work, or should i go to 350's? I want to avoid brass inserts, i like using heavy steel adapters and glue on broadheads. I draw 28.75 inches, and i like to leave my arrows 2 inches longer than my draw length. So would you guys get 350's or 250's? Like i said, i want 300 up front to make heavy arrows. I love heavy arrows, as i don't shoot at game over 20 yards. I know the ce 150's are very weak, just sure what spine to get with 300 out front. I'm very excited to try this bow hunting next fall. It sends my 590 hrain arrows downrange much quicker than any bow i have. I actually want to slow her down some :)Thanks, Matt

I would think the 400 spine would work just fine. You could order a test kit and experiment.

I'm shooting A/D Trads with the brass insert up front (100 grains) along with 200 grain broadheads (arrow weight around 695 grains) out of my Toelke Super D.

I'd go to 30" heritage 250's with 100grain inserts and 200gr points to start to hit the 300gr..

pull the nocks out and fine tune the 700grain total with weed wacker line cut 1/4" longer than shaft without effecting spine..

use a broadhead file to widen the inside of the nocks a bit too.

Thanks guys. Keep your setups coming if you got them. Wouldn't mind if they are just a little weak because i can always build out the strike plate if need be. Matt

I hunt with 2117's out of mine. Shot some AD Trad Lites with 255 grains up front and they flew well.

its hard for me to believe the 150's are to weak, I shoot very similar bow weights and the 150's work very well,,

I am somewhat shocked too. They flew great out of my 50 @ 28 stikbow, but shoot weak out of the 55 lber. I draw just a touch shy of 29" and also have an 8 strand SBD string on the heavier bow. Matt

I shoot GT 55/75 traditionals with a 50gr brass insert and 250 gr head. Arrows are full length uncut. I shoot 55 @32". Elk and deer hate them, I love them.

I tried to make heritage 150's work with my 55# Kota, but could not.  I moved up to 250 's at about 29" with some weight up front and that was the ticket.
