I recently posted about my cold feet problem, and was wondering if anyone had tried the muck boot woody max? It says they are rated for -40 degrees! I'll probably either get these or a new pair of pack boots cuz my uninsulated lacrosse are not getting it done with the weather we got goin on right now here in OHIO!
I have worn the regular woody muck boots for about 10 years.
Keep in mind you can always add one of the chemical hand or foot warmers above the toes.
buckeye I wear a pair of lacrosse unin.grange out each bow season. I HAVE to change socks or boots at mid day( feet sweat) my next pair of boots will be woody max muck boots!
Mec I'll probably be following that same plan, I change my socks as well during hunts but usually doesnt help very much with these lacrosse boots usually pretty cold in about 30 to an hour. Can't stand cold feet. :(
I have the Woody Sport and they are good...the Woody Max is just a warmer version...I bought mine two sizes too big which makes them very easy on and off...plus the lack of constriction makes them warmer...no liner boots are just a lot handier

I've worn the Woody Max for several seasons. They are warm. But, I believe any boot depends on the socks and how much your feet sweat. We had a very cold gun season in WI. I put some toe warmers in mine. They really helped.
The thing to remember with any of those ratings is that they are relative...the minus 40 rating will be at a brisk walk...sitting they will be less effective but still relatively better than boots rated to minus 30...when it gets to minus 40 here we tend to just stay inside

They are excellent. I'm on my second pair. I bought the first pair when they first came out. Best rubber boot made in my opinion. Super easy to get on and off. Light years ahead of all other rubber boots in that respect. They are warm but here is a tip that will help. Since they do not breath much spray your feet with certi-dry antiperspirant. Then put on a pair of silk socks with a pair of wool stocks over the top. Your feet will stay warm in very cold temps on stand. Also if you can swing it buy them a size bigger for cold weather and then buy a lesser model in your normal size for early season. Works for me!
I have the Woody Max and they are great boots but use toe warmers when it gets down in the teens. May try the new LaCrosse AeroHead Boots next time I need a new pair of boots.
I have the Arctic Pro which I don't see anymore and I'm just guessing were probably the predecessor of the WM's. I think most boot ratings are based on walking comfort, not sitting for long hours, however it doesn't get too cold for these boots in my "neck of the woods". If you're moving at all I think you'd die of hypothermia with your feet perfectly comfy, lol! The buy large and layer socks with an inner of silk or polypro is good advice. My only complaint was I got a bit of slippage at the heel which could have caused a blister without the sock preventative.
I have the artic pro, and previously the artic sports. the artic pro are rated for -60, and I think they are a little warmer. I used to wear Sorels with the felt liner in extreme cold, but both the artic sport and artic pro are atleast equal in warmth. What I had to learn with the mucks more then with any other boot was to make sure not to wear too many pair of socks, anything over barely snug and your feet wont stay warm.
If your feet perspire a lot that needs to be corrected for any boot to keep you warm. The certain dry is a good product non-prescription. If that does not work well enough there are prescriptions topical solutions that work well to stop feet from sweating. I have no experience with the muck boot.
Mine are the Arctic Sport; rated to 40 below, I think. If I get cold toes wearing this boot, I don't need to be out, because it is too nasty. I have been out in colder than 20 below, and still stayed warm, at least foot wise. Much boots are hard to beat in col weather.
Tried them and there not that warm. If your feet sweat? They are going to be even colder. Just our findings
To ilistrate a point. On sat it was mid 20 at 5:45 when I got on stand. and got to a high of 29 deg. I sat on stand all day. Dark to dark. I wore 200 gram insulated leather boots with 1 pair of heavy wool sox. I pull hot mocs boots cover over my boots when on stand and place 2 handwarmers in the provided flaps of the hot mocs on each foot. I change out when he stop working. Keep your feet off the steel directly and eat foods high in calories to fuel your body to generate heat. Avoid drinking too much cold drink and but drink plenty to keep hydrated(warm). When you have to pee, don't hold it or you will get cold. Keep your neck and head really, really covered up
Have been wearing the Woody Max for about a half-dozen years. Very good boot, but as Damascas Dave says, the temp ratings are relative. I consider them too warm for much walking. On stand, they're good for me to about 10-20 degrees. Lower than that, and my feet get cold, very cold. This is dark to dark sitting. It takes several hours for my feet to get cold in these temperatures. I'll be buying another pair. Haven't found anything else that works better.
Along the subject lines, I bought a pair of Mickey boots many years ago, the first time I wore them treestand hunting, my feet froze. Needles to say I was bumed out, when one of my friends saw them, he commented, where are the insoles ?, so that the sweat has a place to go. I said they don't come with any and, I figured that is the way they are to be worn. I got a good pair of LaCross inner soles and that was the ticket.
Of coarse your socks have a lot to do with it also, I wear a pair of good smart/marino wool with a wicking sock also usually made of fleece, and they CAN'T be tight in the boot ( whatever you wear ) they must have room to breath. I'm not saying the boot has to be loose, just not tight.

They are the best I've found paired with some smartwool socks and you are good to go! I bought mine a size larger so i could put on two pair of socks. I've had mine 5 yrs and still going strong.
I have the Woody Max and Artic Pro they are both excellent boots.As others have said I would get 1 size larger than your normal boot size.This allows air inside your boot to help blood flow and circulation.I wear 1 pair of moisture wicking socks till temperatures get about 20 degrees.When colder I slip a pair of wool socks over the thin ones and all is well.
They are the best I've found paired with some smartwool socks and you are good to go!
Love my Muck boots but I'm not sitting on a stand at minus 40 degrees. 15 to 30 degrees is one thing , minus 40 is time to stay inside. If your sitting still at below freezing temperatures your feet will eventually get cold. :banghead:
