I would like to see some pics of your kestrel bows. I want to try a short recurve. I love my bob lees but want to try something shorter than my 60" -62" bows. I'm thinking about a micarta or phenoic riser with some palm swell and bocote veneers. And a beavertail grip.
Here's one I sold. Phenolic riser, black glass, beaver..
Nice bow and performed excellent. Grip was too high for me.

Are you talking about a Toelke Kestrel?
Great little bows. If you do a search, you'll find some nice pics. Pete Ward did a review also.... http://peteward.com/2007%20new%20pages/test.toelke52.1pc.html

Yes toelke thanks guys keep them coming
Man, Jeff, I like the looks of that.
I'm thinking of the Kestral and that all black one does it for me. So, is that the classic grip with the beaver tail? For me, the grip looks perfect.
Nice looking bow I love the all black classic look with nice veneers
I asked Dan for a low grip and that's what he came up with.
Here's another view of the grip showing the palm swell and no thumb rest.

Here is my Kestrel. Not a Toelke, but a Kestrel ;)

I have two Toelke Kestrels. Here's that black Kestrel today as my primary hunting bow...52" 41#@28. It is smooth and fast for that poundage. I'm normally a longbow guy but the Kestrel just feels right. As I'm a Senior Citizen, I need a light bow at this stage of my bowhunting career :)

I picked up a second one that was 48#@28...just a bit too heavy for me. After trying to trade for a lighter one, I talked to Dan about considering weight removal & cutting the heel down as it was more prominent that the black Kestrel. Since it was a used bow (even though it looked brand new) I decided to take it to my Knife Grinder  I reduced the weight to 44#, slimed the heel, and refinished it. By adding one quiver insert to the back side of the riser for my hog light, it is now my hog hunting bow for the winter/spring in SC.

You can see the pronounced the heel & thumb grove. The throat is very slim just the way I like it. With the heel slimed down to just two over lays from the original six over lays, it feels like my Toelke Whip longbow. Sorry no pictures of my modifications as it is already down on our farm in Aiken waiting to go hunting :) That quiver insert allows me to add a red hog light on a leather strap like this on my Morrison ILF metal riser. It is completely out of the way and not hanging out front from a stabilizer insert...tippit

Since there is a "Kestrel" made by another bowyer, the superb little 52" recurve made by Dan Toelke is a "Kestral".
I had literally just woke up when I posted the above, it should not have "Since" at the beginning.
Not the best picture of the bow but just shows that these little bows will do the trick. Even at 43@28 I got 2 holes on this pig.

How you kestrel owners liking these little bows
I'm liking all the pics I think I'm gonna place my order soon. Going to try one hopefully I like it. I'm thinking it will make a perfect treestand bow.
Better yet they make the perfect turkey blind bow. No more hitting the roof...I hope :)
