Michael,  Not sure if you remember me but we traded PM's a couple years ago.  I may be interested in making one of the hunts.  I have a lifetime hunting license in Oklahoma but have only been back once since we moved 17 years ago.  Are there hogs on the Waurika WMA?  My email is grswinton@charter.net.  Because of the long drive it might be hard to get down for the scouting trips but maybe I could fly down next summer to get the lay of the land.

Hey Michael, I'm definitely interested.  I would love to meet up with you this month but I'm out of town the dates you are going.  If you decide to go any after Christmas, let me know.  And please email any info regarding next year.  I've got three other trad buddies down here that I think would be interested as well.
Thanks for initiating this!

Tim there is a chance I might be able to go the very last weekend if I am feeling up to it...I get back from Nigeria on the 9th. I will let you know.

Gary, shoot me an email and I'll keep you posted. No serious need to fly down before season. I'll do the scouting for you if you can't make it.

Sounds like a good time. Unfortunately, my work schedule is crazy & sometimes unpredictable so I probably couldn't go any this year & it's hard to say about next year. But, if I find out I can make it, I'll be sure to let ya know. Glad to see someone doing this in the area though.   :clapper:

Wow, that's really cool to have WMA's that are archery only! We have some pretty decent SWA's as we call them in Colorado, but we are competing with everybody for all seasons for the available critters.

Yep, there are a few as I recall, I used to hunt the Okmulgee WMA when I lived down in Oklahoma and that was archery only in parts of it.
Much better public land hunting available than here in Kansass...

Well everyone, we had a good weekend. Just three of us this weekend. Poor Joe didn't see much but Jacob got off a shot at a Turkey early Sunday morning after Joe spent some time watching a large flock roost close by him Saturday evening. I also shot a doe with Jacob Friday evening.
I spent most of Saturday scouting while the others hunted and found some great rut sign and a couple places for new stands. I'll be posting some photos when I upload them...having trouble with slow internet tonight hope you can join us this next weekend.

FYI Jacob and I will be hanging stands this week during the evening so if you have a stand you plan on bringing let us know and we will put up the treesteps for you in one of the areas I found this weekend.

That's a fine looking doe, Michael! Conrats, & glad to see things are going well up that way.

Sonofabuck, I hunt out at Gruber fairly often, but could hit Cherokee up some time with ya. I don't know much about Cherokee & have never hunted Cookson at all, so that'd be fun to try some time. My off days Tue & Wed, but can sometimes get out on Monday afternoons. Shoot me a PM if any of those times work for you.

For non resident archery deer it looks like $280.
Is that for one deer?
Will a,hunting license also be needed?

The 280 is for a nonresident deer archery license, no other license is required and allows the holder to take a full 6 deer limit (max of 2 bucks or all 6 does if you like)

Note: season is from Oct 1st to Jan 15th 2015 but the non-res lic is only good until Jan 1st 2015.

I know before the license cost went from $201 to $280 they were good for one deer, and I don't see the state giving any discounts, so I would call OKC and ask the department, because if I'm right and a warden gets involved it could get costly very quick....Just say'n

Here's what I found from the wildlife dept. for non-residents in "new for 2011" so it's old information.
" Non-resident deer hunters now can choose between a non-resident deer archery license, a non-resident deer muzzleloader license or a non-resident deer gun license. Each license is $280 and is valid for all of the allowed deer for that method."
I'm still not sure but it would seem the license is good for all six deer.  At least in 2011.

Nonresident
Deer Licenses
Nonresidents may purchase three season-
specific deer licenses: a nonresident deer ar
-
chery license, a nonresident deer primitive
firearms license or a nonresident deer gun
license. Each of the three types of nonresident
deer licenses permit the hunter to hunt for all
deer allowed during the specified season. For
the specific season limits, see the information
for each season. The combined season limit of
all seasons remains six deer per individual with
no more than two antlered deer.
These licenses are valid on both public and
private lands. Licenses are not transferable be
-
tween seasons. The nonresident deer gun license
also covers the holiday antlerless deer season.
Note:
Individuals hunting with a nonresident
deer archery license will need a 2015 license for
hunting starting Jan. 1, 2015

As far as resident deer archery:  there is a 6 deer limit; all six deer can be taken with a bow; two bucks only; and you have to have an archery deer license for each deer hunted. In reference to non-residents...apparently the same bag limit, however, it is unclear as to whether they need to spend 280.00 for each deer hunted. I've scoured the regs and haven't been able to determine. It makes no sense that they would have to spend another 280.00 for each deer hunted...but it does not say one way or the other.

'Each of the three types of nonresident
deer licenses permit the hunter to hunt for all
deer allowed during the specified season.'

The three types are, archery, muzzle loader/primitive and regular firearm

The limit is six only two can be bucks

The gun license also covers the holiday season period

Archery license is good from Oct 1 through Dec 31

You can use your archery permit during the other two seasons without additional costs. In other words you don't have to buy a firearm permit to use your archery equipment during the regular gun season.

In a nut shell that's it but not all inclusive of all the states rules, so get the regs. The Fed's have land here we hunt and the harvests from federal lands are not part of the states total allowable.

Hope this helps, Rusty

Your right Joe you do have to purchase a license for each animal as a resident and that's probably the same for non-resident. I've had a lifetime for so long I quit being concerned about buying a tag
Title: Re: NE Oklahoma Tradganger hunt in 2014
Post by: DaveT1963 on October 14, 2014, 08:18:00 AM
I did read the regs and one OK NR deer archery tag entitles you to kill 6 total deer (2 can be bucks).  Been that way for as long as I have been hunting in OK as a NR.  If you want to hunt muzzle loader you buy that tag... gun you buy that tag.  All seasons combined equals six deer but YOU CAN take all 6 with one archery tag.

I stand corrected.  Dave is right.  It's on p. 18 of the regulations.  I have a resident lifetime  and assumed that non residents had to buy them separately like residents do if they don't have a lifetime.

You guys bring lots of arrows!

Glad that is cleared up! Tater, I've had a lifetime since 1980! Parents got it for my 16th birthday. I think it's paid out!

I gotta work this weekend     and family from out of town the 1st.
Deer were bouncing around like rabbits tonight, a prelude to this weekend I predict. I'm north by Oologah. Osage County has some of the best big deer in the state. Matter of fact I took a 7 1/2 yr old 'fat' doe in the western wall a few years ago. Good luck ya'll
