a girl i went to school with has a 16 years old son that desperately wants to get in to Traditional archery and hunting. he has asked for a recurve for Christmas and needs everything to go with it. our very own Kat ( Ken Thornhill ) has graciously offered to give the young man a Bear Grizzly! i believe i have arrows, field points, and old shooting glove and a few odds and ends to give him. if anyone has anything they think he might be able to use laying around it would really help out a TON as his mother is a single, working mom and they do not have a lot. he wears medium clothes and Lord knows i can't help him with that! i know he could use a quiver and hunting clothes for sure. anything would be greatly appreciated! i would really love to be able to give everything to his mother in 2 weeks so she does not sweet it out. feel free to reply here or pm. the young mans Grampa is teaching him deer hunting know but he is rather old and can not get around well. i offered to help him learn how to shoot and scout to be ready for next year. i also will take him to 3d shoots and stump shooting. its all about the youth, we all know that!
Your a great guy for this and he will cherish this to forever mold his life.
Congrats and yes it is about the youth movement....
just trying to do what was done for me SO MANY times on here, pay it forward....
PM me your address. I don't use a shooting glove anymore and have I think 2 that are in good shape that I could send. Is he right or left handed? I could send a shooting tab or 2 in case he likes a tab better. What spine arrows will he need for the bow weight he will be shooting? I will look and see what else I could send.
Thanks,
Mark
Ken,
Does Kat's Grizzly have the riser inserts for a Bear quiver? I have a seven-arrow "Quick Detach" Bear bow quiver and base that would match the Grizzly nicely (I have it camoed). I'll send it to you if he has the bushings that will allow it to attach.
Note also it's of the age that wood or aluminum shafts of 11/32" or 23/64" would fit but not the little carbon 9/32" jobs.
Charlie
I can make him a back quiver. Find out if he's RH or LH please. And send me their address or your address.
Nothing fancy, but a functioning back quiver for loads of arrow shootn' fun ;)
PM me.
Bud
If you don't have the arrows he needs, let me know.
I may have something sitting around which will be full length.
Tim
Wow, she's your age? She must have given birth to him when she was 70 and granpa must be well into his hundreds. Anyway old man, I got you some arrows and probably broad heads.
Hey Ken, I have a pair of Cabelas camo pants. I will get them out. Way to step up with the bow KAT
his mother is a few years younger then me and he is 16, great kid, kind of quiet and shy. my addy is

I removed the side plate to replace it, and it says 48#. It is RH and 58 inches long.
Charlie-There are no riser inserts, but thanks for the generous offer.
Thanks to all for your generosity. The folks here on this sight never cease to amaze me.
I will take some pictures of the bow, and post them here.

What size boots + clothes does he wear? I'm sure I have something he could use.
Ken, just sent out some clothing and 1/2 dozen gold tip 35/55 and 1/2 dozen 2016, 30". Ray
Send me the boy's address and I'll send him some back issues of TradArchers' World magazine, as well as a subscription.
Ken,
I think you will be a great mentor for the young man. Please make up a list of what has been donated and what he needs just so he doesn't wind-up with too many doubles or triples. Thank you.
Regards,
Rick
hey Ken....what about hunting clothes? I have some plaid wool shirts & Jackets that ...ehem...have shrunk :) they might be a big large for a 16yo but may work?
Introduce him to Tradgang as well...
Ken, I have a bunch of Magazines. Mostly Traditional Bowhunter. Most of them Have Ron W.'s name on them.
Call me, we can figure out how to get them to you.
Dudes, :notworthy: :clapper:
Let us know what all he still needs after all the generous donations, I'm sure I can dig some goodies up...
just INCREDIBLE the support from this site!!! just got home from worm but will answer all pm's and and give a run down on what we have so far, it is AMAZING!
Hey Ken, i'll get something out tomorrow.
ok first off is her/his adress
Stacie Linart
528 1/2 North Market St
Johnstown ny 12095
his name is Kyle linart
his mother insists on thanking everyone personaly so i said about the only way your going to be able to do that is joining TradGang which i will tell her to have Kyle do AFTER Christmass as i do not want him to see this thread untill then.
What size is he?
size 9 on the boots if that helps, i know he can use a pair. also i know he now has enough shooting gloves and tabs from the people already sending them. Bud B is making a back quiver for him, i'll give him a cat quiver, i think that should be good unless someone has a side quiver of some sort. 3 people are sending arrows so that is covered! members are sending clothes, i know he needs them, again he is a size medium but like others said he can grow in to things yet.
ATTABOY Ken!!PM sent
Could he use a fanny pack? I have an extra I'll send.
sure i know one of the members is sending a back pack but a fanny pack would be usefull, i use one often on close hunts, i'm sure he could use it, THANK YOU!
again just speech less on all the help! and for those that know me i am NEVER speech less....
Medium sized Cedar Swamp Asbell Wool Zippered Jacket and Asbell Instinctive Shooting book on the way brother. Merry Christmas!

WOW....... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
This may be putting the cart before the horse, but I have a few woodsman 125gr. broad heads that I will send you.
I just mailed out an envelope Ken...arm guard, Damascus Glove, Camo hunting gloves, rubber tip protector and shelf material(side plate/carpet). Please email me back when you receive the goods so I know they are in good hands.
Do you still have my Elk bugle? :dunno:

I'm heading out on a hunt tomorrow Ken. Will make the quiver upon return and ship then.
the young man, Kyle will be joining TradGang as soon as i tell his mother to sign him on. i think he should wait until this thread runs its course after Christmas. his mother is writing down EVERYONE'S names to thank, i told her its not needed to just have Kyle join but she insists.
I sent you a pm with what I have in arrows and broadheads to offer.
Tim
Way to go Ken!
I just seen this so i'll take a look at what I have and see if there's anything he might need.
Great work here guys! I wish I saw the post earlier. Hats off to everyone.

Well harumph. Sounds like a better quiver was offerred anyway.
So Ken will be receiving a brass case Marbles' compass & neck lanyard to pass along. That way I can help point him in the right direction. ;-)
Well, shoot, it sounds like he's pretty well set up & I can't think of anything else I have that he might need. If there's anything else he could use, let us know & I'll see what I can do...
Good on ya, Ken & all the Tradgang that are helping the young man out! :notworthy:

just AMAZING you fine folks are! i hope his mom takes a picture Christmas day!!!!!!!!!
Ken...I'm putting together another package that I will ship out next week.
Got a target on the way. Thanks to everyone for their generosity.
Jon
a PILE of packages arrived today, will update later!
also i need all your input. not sure what is in all the packages as i have not opened any for the kid. now not sure what to do, give his mom all packages unopened which might cause a problem as i know she is going to have no clue what the items are or how to use them. should i open them and sort them out so as to explain the use to her? or just let the kid open everything and have him call me and ask questions? what do you think?
If it was me, I'd arrange to go over to their house some time on Christmas day, Santa hat on, and loaded down "sleigh," let him open them all up & explain/ help along the way.
packages still rolling in, THANK YOU ALL again! about the only thing missing now is arrows but i can make my 50/55's work if need be. i am sure this young buck will be floored come Christmas day!
Email sent Ken.
Bud
Bud, got it AWESOME work my friend! the young fella will love it i'm sure!
Have we swamped this kid or what?
I have a listing in the Video classifieds for some free VHS tapes for a youngster. Sounds like you have someone just like that in mind so they are yours if you'd like them.
PM sent.
he will definitely be swamped! i have already warned he mother both her and her son will be a bit overwhelmed but i told her thats what we on TradGang do, we help others and encourage the youth in this fine sport! i am sure he would have had a great Christmas without us as he has a loving mother BUT i bet ya he will NEVER forget this year!
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Ken....mailed out another small box this afternoon. Please let me know when you receive it. I would love to make some arrows up but I have no more arrow boxes laying around to ship them out in. Team Pink likes to start them young.... :archer:
I believe this box contains a soft bow sock for his recurve, Scent Ammo, Hawgs Vanishing Hunter, James Valley lure, large Dripper, large camo shirt and a Bota.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/Stumpkiller/StumpySays.gif) the Christmas Spirit is strong in this one.

brought everything over to Kyles house today for his mother to wrap and i explained everything. she was over joyed! will post a follow up after Christmas and hope to add a picture or 2 as i plan to take him out shooting.
Good job my friend! Looking forward to some pics.
And bring him along to the Rockwood stump shoot this spring if you can.
Can't wait to see the photos! This has been such a good story - I love happy endings! Good on all of you!
So........how did the kid make out??? :campfire: :coffee:
been on the run al day, hope to stop for a visit this weekend, you going to be around sat or Sun Ron? could bring him to your house to shoot a bit?
Check with me later Ken.........The Kids are up from Ga.
gifts are still rolling in THATS AWESOME! i know Kyle loved everything as i spoke with his mother, he is at his Grand Parents for the next few days. he will be joining Tradgang very shortly and i was thinking about deleting this post as i am not sure how what effect it would have. i will leave it up to him to introduce himself and give thanks. i am sure he will be asking a ton of questions as he learns!
If someone video taped or took photos of that kid opening up all those packages would have been priceless. I'm really glad that the folks here made great contributions. Seems Traditional folks have deeper core values.
Ken....any pics to update before kyle joins the gang and you delete this thread?
have not been able to hook up and shoot yet, he has been at his grandparents for a few days. his mother told me he has been shooting over there.
How's Kyle doing?
Can we expect photos in the near future?
:campfire: :coffee:
I would imagine Ken, like most of us, is now back at work after the holidays and Kyle might be back in school. I'll bet we'll see loads of pics soon.
I just want to see the smiles :)
was supposed to take him shooting Tues or Wed but had an unexpected death in my family as my Aunt had a stroke and passed away. the weather is also not cooperating to well but i got that covered, will be taking him to an indoors range this Sunday and get him on track! look forward to shooting with him and taking some pictures. with work (UPS) and the passing of my Aunt it has been a very hard last couple of days.
Thanks for what you're doing Ken.
Sorry about the passing of your Aunt.
Condolences to your family on your aunt's passing. Get photos of the young man when you can.
finally got some time to BREATHE!!!! we will be shooting tomorrow!!!!!
FINALLY had the chance to shoot with Kyle today! what a great, well mannered young man! he shot very well for the first time really shooting trad archery. the bow Kat donated fits him well, a little stout at #45 pounds but he shot well and no doubt he will learn as he goes and this bow will serve him well for years to come! he LOVED shooting for sure, we shot indoors at a local club as the weather is pretty brutal! he DEFINITELY was all set up for shooting with everything everyone had gifted him! even after i was tired he was still chomping at the buit to shoot so i took some pictures and offered all the help i could.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/adkmountainken/trad%20archery/011-3.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/adkmountainken/media/trad%20archery/011-3.jpg.html)

it was all a lot to take in so we are starting with the basic's, working on a positive anchor and keeping the elbow down. he caught on quick and is adjusting to the weight of the bow. he is only 14 and 112 pounds so it all all very new to him and i told him the muscle memory will come with time and practice. click on the video below.

Bud B made an AWESOME quiver for him with he loves and fits him PERFECT! you can see a load of the arrows donated as well with some good arrows he is saving for hunting.
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/adkmountainken/trad%20archery/016-1.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/adkmountainken/media/trad%20archery/016-1.jpg.html)
looks like he is set up very well.
great job everyone.
he will be joining Tradgang shortly but does not get on the computer often, can ya believe that a youth who does NOT like the computer!!!! he loves the outdoors, horse back riding, showing animals with 4H, hunting with his Gram pa and pretty much anything pertaining to the outdoors, as his mother told me for a young man he is very old fashioned and brought up right. he is a pleasure to be around and is very thankful to all who gave. i know the boots came in really handy for school as well as hunting.
i will be taking him every chance i get and will get him to join a local traditional club i am part of The Mohawk Hudson Archers. i personally want to thank all of you for helping him out as well all know it is all about the youth and this young man is a fine representative of the future of our sport! i will be posting more pic's of our adventures as they unfold, this was the first time i had personal met kyle and i know now that we all did the right thing as i am sure he will take right off in this sport, has everything in the world for it which would not have been possible otherwise and will leave a lasting impression on him forever!
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v119/adkmountainken/trad%20archery/017-2.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/adkmountainken/media/trad%20archery/017-2.jpg.html)
Thanks for organizing this Ken. I was glad to be a part. Adding the fact he is "old fashioned" makes it even better for me.
If he needs more holes in that quiver strap he can use empty 22 casings for punching them. And to treat the leather when the time comes he can get mink oil paste at Wally World. A nice soft boot brush applies it nicely.
God bless you for bringing this to our attention. And continued prayers to you and your family for your loss.
:clapper:
It doesn't get better than that. Bless those that gave and to you for making his Christmas a merry one.
again THANK YOU to all! more pic's when we get together for small game and stump shooting.
Ken,
I still have the magazines! If he wants to ride horses, I have a pretty good idea where that can happen as well :readit:
Kyle looks like a good Young man, looking forward to shooting with you guys.
he is very much in to horse riding and showing, will definitely bring him up to the farm with you to ride and stump shoot.
Thanks for the pictures Ken.
It looks like a fine investment in the future of our sport.
Kyle and his mother Stacie just joined under the name firereptile1999 and made a thank you post. great kid, great mom, welcome them aboard!
