Title: Blackbeard Island and Sand Gnat?
Post by: Etter on December 01, 2013, 07:03:00 PM
Wondering if anybody is going to the second hunt at blackbeard this year?

Me and three other buddies will be there.  This will be my fourth year in a row.  My only question is:
What have you found works to keep sand gnats (no-seeums) at bay?  I don't want to use anything that would damage my bow finish.  IE deet, etc.

It's going to be very warm this year.  I got bit up pretty good last year whenever the temp got above 55 but highs this year are in the 70s

Thermacell?
I hunted Blackbeard many years ago(1980s) and it is still one of my favorite place to bow hunt deer.

I hunted Blackbeard in the mid 1980s and I lived in Savannah seven years.  The only thing we used that would work was Avon "Skin So Soft."

Avon makes a bug spray called expedition they call it unscented but it does have a slight smell it will keep everything off noseeums sketters and ticks

I thought Thermacell pretty  much only works on flying insects ?

Try Badgers, it's all natural and has worked very well on the ticks and  chiggers in N.J. you can even spray it on the kids safely.

nijoco noseeums are a flying gnat and thermacells do work you could also get a brim hat and a fine net gloves and some tape to keep them out.
