since switching to carbons earlier this year I also wanted to try switching from 2 blades (magnus & stos) to 3 blades. so I picked up some Woodsmans from the 'supplier'. at first I wasn't very happy with the 'as shipped' condition. all the blades were swooped-concave (kinda like a simmons or howard hill but not as drastic), and all the brazing was uneven at the tips...but I decided to give em a go anyway.
shooting them out of a 54# curve, with 100grn brass insert and a 75grn steel adapter.....so I got plenty of up front weight :)
all but one shot true on first mounting, the 6th just needed a re-heat and tweak. practiced for a few days and their hitting right where my field points hit. so I'm pretty happy. I knew going in that the needle tips were a weak point and they were rolling over just hitting the 3d. so I filed them down following Charlie lambs video and no more problems with the tips.
then last night I sharpening them up follow mr. lambs vids, first on the grobet, then stone (accept I used a diamond stone instead of the stone he used in the 3rd part.), then a quick touch on the ceramic stick. man...shaving sharp first time. Well done mr. lamb.

Yep, I never could get them as sharp as I thoght they should be. Then, I sat with Charlie for 5 minutes a couple years ago with one of these heads...now there's always at least one in my quiver. Magic marker, large high quality file, follow Charlie's instruction = you'll be very happy with the results. These are the easiest heads to get wicked sharp that I have ever tried. Yes, even easier than two blades a file or other sharpening tool. You simply don't have to think about it, hold it flat and pull.
PS, his method works on razorcaps and snuffers too.

yah....I've never had a problem getting any of the 2 blade models I've used (bears, magnus, stos, zwickey, etc) sharp using tom's or dean's methods. so I figured the WWs would be the same with the right method.

I bought the truangle snuffer kit for my razorcaps. i tried sharpening them some while hunting 2 weeks ago, and i could not get them sharp. Is it better to sharpen at the angle from true angle or is it better to sharpen them flat?

Danny, the razorcaps I have sharpen like gangbusters on a big flat file...just like the WW. Follow the vid, it'll work.
Mine were so uneven, I could barely get them even on one side. I finally gave up
well....tried to test them out yesterday morning but the darn animals just didn't want to cooperate. only saw a couple gray squirrels and chip monks and I though the WWs would be a bit much for them. :) no deer, but I was only out there for about 4 hours, will be back at em soon.

I bet you did not get the angle changed from the standard 30 degrees to the new 24 degree that the Snuffer tamer puts on the head ! Don't give up ! Make SURE by using the magic marker to mark the egdes BEFORE you start sharpening. It takes a lot of strokes to get that much metal off, especially if you have a old file. I use firm pressure and 10 stokes per side until I get the marker off. Then switch to about 3 strokes per side med pressure. Then finish with one stroke and light pressure. Then stone, then strop with leather. Next step SURGERY, HAHA !!!
Even if you do not use the Snuffer tamer kit you can get them scalpel sharp like JC said by dragging them backwards on a flat file, stone and leather. That is what I do. The only advantage to the tamer kit is you are making the angle smaller and more knife like, which is easier to get a shaving sharp edge on. However, that 24 degree edge is weaker than the 30 degree angle that comes on them stock from the factory. Make sure you use the marker and a NEW 12-14" file, prefereably a good ole American made Nicholson Mill Bastard single cut from Lowes, Home Depot, etc. I even mark my file side 1 & 2. I use 1 for heavy work and side 2 for the final finishing work. This file is also dedicated only for broadhead work. It stays in my archery tackle box. dannyvp, you can do this, I know ya can ! :jumper:

FYI....washed the blood and hair from the doe taken last friday. and the broadhead was still in good shape. not quite a hair-popping sharp as I like so I touched it up on the file-stone-crockstick and good to go back in the quiver in less then 2 minutes!....love these broadheads!
the only thing is I'm having difficulty getting the dried blood outta the fletching....but I guess thats a good problem to have :)
