A couple of fellow trad shooters and myself are looking to put together a pig hunt next year.
We're wanting some opinions on places to go. Texas, Okla., Arkansas?
Outfitters and or guides? Yes or no and if yes, recomendations. This would be a first time for us. Not interested in any canned hunt.
Time of year? Prefer something in the spring.
Any advice and feed back would be appreciated.
Thanks
You guys are in Ohio a whitetail paradise. I would think a trade a hunt listing of whitetails for pigs in that forum would get you a ton of offers on pig hunts.
Somerset,
I'm from up north in Ohio a ways, but they have quite a few hogs in the Southeastern Ohio counties down around the Ohio River. I think Vinton, Washington, Jackson, Noble, Monroe, Gallia and Lawrence counties have a good number of hogs. You have to contact farmers in those areas. ODNR does notkeep any records on hog damage to farms, but there are some farms being decimated by hogs over that way. You have to do the leg work yourself, which is why I haven't gotten over that way yet. Hard to get the time.
Good Luck, been wanting to go hog hunting myself.

I have hunted these counties for 30 years, aint seen a hog yet! Maybe I just don't know where to look?
Hmmm I've been wanting to do some hog hunting down in southern ohio to. I've heard that they're around but don't have percise locations.
I agree with Osagetree.I have hunted SE Ohio for many years and own land there and have yet to see a hog!

I have info if you really want it on Southeastern Ohio and Eurasian Boars that are now a breeding population that have escaped game farms. The largest one killed down there that I know of dressed out at #435
Hogs in Southern Ohio is a myth. One or teo may have escaped ahigh fence hunting location in Viton County. There is NO huntable population of hogs in Ohio. I have hunted close to the high fence location and NEVER seen ant evidence of hogs.
David, I have heard that for several years. I even saw the game farm advertisement in a magazine before. It's close to me, I understand. I will find away to check it out, so if you have more info,,, by all means let me know!!!
Like Ted said,,, it has just been a rumor amongst our hunting community here in south eastern and central Ohio.
A couple years ago I was told by a friend that his buddies hunt ferral hogs around Chilicothe Ohio. I told him I would go with them next time, but have never heard back from them since.
You have a PM with a bunch of links in it coming to you Joe.
Vermonster13, Please send the info my way. I'd really be interested. Thanks

Vermonster13, I would like to see the info also please. Thanks, Chris
I want to get in on this PLEASE!. I hunted a WMA in Georgia acouple of years ago with out any luck. The place was thick and you just pushed hogs out in front of you allday. I have always thought that hunting a place like Texas with open terrain would be a good bet for a spot and stalk type of hunt.JMO
David, Dont leave me out either!
Info sent to all who asked for it. You might also want to contact the DNR, they have been running a Feral Pig Damage Program since last year and may have some leads for you.
Vermonster13,
Please send me the list of links too, I appreciate it. Thanks!
I'll go to if you get the chance.
Guys, Thanks for the heads up on SE Ohio hogs, but we're really looking to go somewhere such as Texas to hunt where there is a larger population and possibly have a shot at javelina as well as hogs.
I live in SE Ohio and have property in Monroe and Noble counties. I agree that there are hogs down here, but it's not a thriving population (yet) as far as I can tell. With all of the pictures we've gotten on our trail cameras, we've never seen a hog and my property (I think) would be considered prime hog territory.
Perhaps we can make another post for Ohio hog hunting.
Vermonster13 I'd like that info as well.
Somerset, you may want to contact Bob Morrison from Morrison Archery. I not sure if he still goes, but I know he used to go to Texas every year to hunt hogs on a farm. I think they camped on the guys property and paid him a small fee. Sorry I can't help any more.
Ok everyone else who asked now has a PM with links.
