G'day everyone. I'm Steve and I've just gotten back nto archery after a 10 year break. I started out with an old Ben Pearson compound back when I was 13 and shot barebow for years, later I moved onto a Hoyt Magnatec with a pin sight. One thing was the same though I always used fingers to shoot.
I then moved onto firearm hunting and have done that for the last 10 years. My job as a military armourer has allowed me to hunt my way across Australia taking everything from bunnies to buffalo with my trusty old Enfield. But I always missed something. There is something zen like shooting a bow.
I decided that I needed a bow again. But what bow? I ruled out a compound. Modern compounds are pretty much a release only proposition and that is too much like shooting a firearm. If I want to use a firearm I'll use one. Not a bow that works like one. So I looked at recurves. I tried a few out. I can't remeber the brands or bows I tried but the hand shock and noise was terrible from them. I tried the Hoyt Gamemaster as I liked its ugly looks LOL. Nope terrible hand shock. So I tried the Buffalo. I was in love. It shot so sweetly! I also suprised myself I could comfortably draw a 55#@28" recurve! I hadn't shot a bow in 10 years! Well the Buffalo came home with me and then I deployed to the Middle East. DOH!
Well I just got home and am in the yard every afternoon shooting a few ends out of her. Its coming back now. I love shooting instictively and I think that it is coming back naturally to me reasonably quick. I'm not quite at hunting accuracy yet but with a bit more hard work and practise I'll get there. I look forward to taking some Aussie game with her and showing you guys what a Trad convert can do.
Steve.

Welcome!
Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I appreciate it. I hope to learn a lot from the vast pool of knowledge here. I'm a complete novice when it comes to bow tuning and arrow selection I trusted the Pro-shop here to sort me out with shafts. I'm using Powerflight 340's my draw weight is 59# at 29" I'm getting better but I'll join the local club in the new year and see if they can help me out but given that trad archery isn't very popular here in Oz I won't hold my breath.
Welcome!!!
Brother if it was popular Id do somthing else. It aint easy so it aint popular. But I LIKE IT.
