I am looking for rapid rail users before Ameristep bought them, when they used a rope with the chinese type slide knot was on them.
Looking for info on how they attached. Pics would be great also.
I had a couple sets with the ropes before Ameristar bought them. Still have some I believe (too many stands). Are you wanting to know how the rope attaches to the step or how the hook on the other side attaches?
Pm me your e-mail and I'll send you a couple of pictures
Aaron
I know how to braid and splice the rope and attach it to the step
Looking for how the rope hooks up to step.
Any info would be great.
SEnt you a note.
It has a steel hook on the end.
I'm not sure how the old ones with ropes did the final hookup. If I was retrofitting with rope, I would strongly consider using carabiners to clip around the vertical side rails. Hooks and such have a tendency to not be hooked, or not hold, or bend...etc.
Daniel...you simply wrap the hook around the tree and hook it to to the same step it is tied to on the other side with the open end of the hook facing up and pull the rope tight. Then pull the rapid rail down to set it. If this doesn't make since let me know and I'll take a pic tomorrow when it stops raining.
BTW ..I think Kevin's idea is a very good one as I have bumped them when climbing up and had them come loose. That's why they are tucked away somewhere and don't see much use.
Kevin. Funny you should say that. This morning I was looking at books and such and saw the carabiners. Bought some of them with the same thought in mind even before seeing your post. Thanks everybody for the info
