Sorry to ask another arrow question, but can't find all the answers I'm looking for.
My bows are between 52-56# at my draw length. I want to try some Easton Axis shafts (I can get a good deal on some). The easton shaft selector for a 51-55# recurve and 150 gr head says I'm right on the line between a 400 and a 340 shaft. The heaviest point they will let you select is 150 gr. my heads are 190-200.
I'm going to try very hard to bare shaft tune them. I know I can get 1-2 in a test kit, but I'd like to hear anyone's experience with this shaft to know what they are using. The 340 just seems way to stiff to me.
Is your bow cut to center? If not, how much before or past center is it cut? What do you use for a strike plate (thickness). What is your draw length, and how long do you want your arrows to be?
I'm no expert, but the guys that know tuning will ask the questions above before they can make recommendations.

I don't like lots of arrow past the riser, so I'd like them between 29-30".

These will probably be for the Kwyk Styk. I understand that they may not work in all my bows.
And before anyone suggests it, I already have some Arrow Dynamics trads and trad lites on hand to tune as well. I just like the skinny Axis shafts and I guess I have more money than brains when it comes to arrows.
If you're gunna cut them that short, I'd probably go with the 400. I shoot 200gr up front on my 340s that are 32" with my draw at 64@31.
I moved heavier so I'm shooting 32.5" 300s with 275-290gr up front out of that same bow.
I use 500s But only have 180 up front. 55-60 @28
500's or 400's should work for you.
I shoot Axis out of some of my bows. I cut my arrows at 30 1/8 and draw a tad over 29 1/2. Up to about 53# I shoot 500s with 250 grain up front between the insert and head. Above that I shoot 400s with 250 or 300 up front.

I love the new Easton Axis Trads. Before this year the MFX Classics. The Trad is extremely durable and good looking (not that deer care).
I shoot 500 spine cut at 27" with 200 grain Helix and 50 grain brass HIT insert. I have a 26" draw and this arrow is launched by a 49.5# TT Titan. This arrow weighs 535 grains.
400 with axis aluminum insert, 340 with 100gr brass insert.
I shoot the 340's with similar weight bows. 29" shaft, 200-250 grains up front and they bare shaft nicely. Lighter heads and the 400's are good. You have options, my friend.
I shoot 340s out of a 56# at 28" Tall Tines Recurve. I draw 29" so I'm actually pulling about 58#. I cut my shafts 30.25" and shoot 275gr up front (250gr tips, 16 gr insert and 9 gr footing) My Black Widow PSA pulling 57 lbs shoots them equally well.
52, 53, 54# bows...29.5 Axis 400's, 200gr heads, bareshaft perfect.
With carbon/foam limbs....had to go to a 340.
Jeff I have spent a lot of time with the Axis. I have 340, 400, 500. With what you described in your first post I belive you are going to want a 400. I shoot 57@28 out of my Stalker Wolverine and my Ferret. These bow choose different things. The stalker is a 400 at 30.25 with 225 up front. The Ferret is a 400 at 29.25 with 200 up front.
