There I was with the Robertson in hand sitting in a stand on a pinch point. Sign was around there was a buck in the area so I climbed... First day... there he was on my left side but never came closer than 60 yards. I could see the antlers above the head but no idea (or care) of how big it was. Darkness came and out I went til the next morning.
I woke up to a huge wind blowing but wind was in my favor for that stand. Climbed up the ladder and sat on the ready. I positioned myself to shoot left side and relied on my eyes cause I wasnt going to hear the leaves crunching. About an hour into the sit the wind stopped all of the sudden. I was like YES this will be good with no wind. Just then I heard a "TICK" like something had pulled a weed. I look slowly to my right side and there he was 10 yards broadside from me and I never heard him come in!!! As I started to SLOWLY turn for a shot he decided to walk straight toward the stand and put the vitals right behind a maple tree 5 yards from me. He froze looking at the bottom of the stand and then then up at me. At that point I was frozen in a non shooting position that I would have looked good on the game twister! Feet pointing south, upper body pointing north
With two bounds he was over the top of the hill on into the swamp... Darn wind got me again... Back to the woods
Sounds like you have a great place to hunt. Wish I lived close by so I could help you drag him out when you connect!
Akbow I think he noticed the new furniture in his living room and wont be back unless a doe takes him there. Spent two weeks in your neck of the woods on business and man are those mountains nice! A different way of life for sure!
Keep after him!
Good luck!

Something similar happened to me last Wednesday in Appleton Wisconsin. The buck of my lifetime walks in the area about 70 yards away. Sw wind and he's coming in from the east. I put a few scent wicks to my south of stand and when he hits the scent it brings him in like he was on a string. As he is coming from left to right I'm saying Holy Crap this is a 150" plus buck and I focus on the shot and never counted points. As he is making his way to my shooting lane I make a very small adjustment. Like moving my bowhand 4" to the right as he is about 4-5' from my wick and he saw my movement and froze, staring directly at me. I say to myself I'm screwed. Damit, forget about it and give me one step. I've had tension on the string during the last 15yards looking for 1st oppurtunity and now I know I've lost control. He did what looked like a back flip, took two bounds and walked out of my life. I hope you get another chance, I think I saw this one yesterday but stayed out at 70 yards where I saw him Wednesday.
"Meat's not meat 'til it's in the pan" according to a Charlie Russell painting. There is a lot of truth in that.
Keep after him!
Oh boy doesn't that all sound familiar.
