Was hunting a scrape line when he gave me a 19 yard shot. He went 60 yards before he crashed. He has the darkest antlers of any buck I've ever harvested. It will make a welcome addition to my wall. Was using a Bob Lee recurve,Grizzly Stik arrows, and Abowyer Brown Bear heads. Nice buck. Those are almost ebony.

Nice buck Vernon!
What are the deer feeding on around there? I've seen local deer have different color coats depending on what there primary diet is, but never antlers so dark.
Are you seeing any other bucks around with the dark antlers?
I'm wondering if the buck's diet caused it or if it was just a recessive gene?
Congrats on a nice unique buck.
-
Wow, those are really dark. Never seen a set that dark either. Very cool.
Did you know:
All deer antlers right after velvet is shed start out very light or white. The darker brown colors comes from the liquid of the cambium layers of the trees they rub on.
Couldn't pass up a Cliff Claven moment. Haha.

Congrats! That's a cool looking set of horns.

Great deer, blacker horns than I have ever seen. Looks great. Doesn't the sap from his rubbing trees cause the color? Have seen deer with almost white horns and it looked as if they were not rubbing trees with a lot of sap[pines, spruces ect. ] Roy
