Title: A present for our unborn daughter, a family heirloom is made.
Post by: JARHEAD1371 on November 12, 2013, 08:53:00 AM
As some of you know, my wife is due with our first child on Valentine's Day. This is an amazing blessing because we believed we couldn't have kids. That wasn't medically confirmed, but after being together for almost 8 yrs it just never happened. Anyway, I decided to build our daughter's crib instead of just buying one. Since I've never been accused of "under building" anything, I'm building the crib out of solid Red Oak. I am also building it so that once she grows out of the crib, the sides will be removed and the back and front will become the headboard and footboard of a full size bed. I estimate the final weight of the crib to be around 70#, and I plan on it being able to be used for any children she might have. Enjoy!

FINISHED HEADBOARD

Footboard in progress...

Once everything is done, I will finish it with Tung Oil to match the dresser that I will build next.

Good on ya, Dad! :-) Blessings your way...nothing like children to raise awareness of how deep love can go.
