Can you sharpen a three blade head with a round chainsaw file? I'm getting ansy about shooting them and all my other files are ruined or rusted.
I don't see why you couldn't if you stroked it sideways across the way some videos show, but you could go out and buy a new file they aren't that expensive.
If it were me I would buy a new flat file big enough to lay that 3 blade on. do it right and you wont be in the market for new heads.
Not sure why you would want to do that. Go buy a flat Nichols file and be done with it.
You can even use sand paper of varying grits. Put it on a hard flat surface and use that instead of a round file.

Sand paper!!!
I guess I just want to know if anyone has done it?
I have tried it, but I did not have the best of luck with it.
I've used sand paper on knives. Works great. Use wet/dry paper and you can get a great edge.
I use a chainsaw file to sharpen my heads all the time in the field. They are super light to put in your pack and do a good job of getting down into nicks to sharpen in a serrated style as opposed to filing nicks all the way out with a flat file. I even use the back end to strop the blade once it's sharp.
