Title: FF String Length for ML-14
Post by: Brazos on November 10, 2013, 09:34:00 PM
I have a friend that just got a pristine 68" ML-14 from his dad. The string on it is junk.  I forgot to measure for a new string before he got away.  Typically a longbow I would take 3" off the length of the bow to get the FF string length, so in this case 65".  Is that safe to do with an ML-14?  Also what is a good starting point for brace height for this bow?
Thanks, Brazos

Go 3" shorter then the AMO,some of the earlier ML-14 did not have tip overlays and I would use a Dacron string.I had a later ML-14 and it had black fiberglass tip overlays and I used D97 on mine.I shot mine a a 6.5" brace height,I think the range was from 6.25" to 7".

I had a ML-14, 65 lb, right handed.  I never used anything other than dacron as it didn't have reinforced tips...that being said, it used a 65" string.

Thanks.  I will check out his limb tips.  I don't remember and figured any bow by a major manufacturer built in the past 25 years would be good to go.
