Title: 2-piece longbow or recurves
Post by: TaterHill Archer on November 10, 2013, 09:31:00 PM
I have a one piece Caribow Tuktu EX and some 3-piece TD recurves.

Recent threads have me interested in a 2-piece longbow or recurve.  I like the looks of the A&H 2-piece, but I know nothing about the types of connectors available.  Anyone have one of these that they can comment on?

Palouse longbow and recurve= connector sleeve, solid connection heavy bows.

Big Jim makes two piece longbow.

Black Widow makes two piece.

Fox makes a two piece.

Liberty and Mohawk I believe use a connection hinge.

I like it. Doesn't come apart as well as a hinge connection.

Hermon,
Thanks.  I've seen it.  I have a 1-piece like it.  I see that connection on other bows and I've seen hinges.  Guess I could be clearer.

1.  Is one type of connector superior to another?
2.  Anyone with experience with a 2-piece A&H longbow?

I've got bow bolts on my Toelke and Shrew and getting ready to send out a two piece Big Jim.  I like the bow bolt better, no real reason why, just seems more solid to me.  I'm always wondering if I got the sleeve models "together" well enough.  No doubt when I'm there with the bolt.

Toelke's two piece bows with Micarta riser are superb, can't go wrong.

Spent some time looking at the Toelke.  Very nice.  I also like the Big Jim Buffalo

I had a1- piece Centaur.  I liked it, but I really wanted a 2-piece.

I like the locket socket on my Black Widow PLX,very solid and strong system.Big Jim uses the same system and I believe Cari-bow and A&H do also and probably a few others.

Centaur does offer a 2 piece now Jeff.Similar to Thunderhorns 2 PC. design. Its intricatly done and unique.Very nice.It does require an allen wrench for the small bolts that pull the 2 halves of the bow together. No big deal really. But some like no tools in a 2 PC..You may see some pics on Thunderhorns website possibly or maybe Centaurs?

I think thiers alot of good 2 PC. systems. The locket/socket is great.Had some B. Jims and widows with it.Very satisfied with that for durability/function and fit.

The brass and steel sleeve works excellant for me and some builders offer custom grips with those like  locator and pistol grips. Those do add some mass weight to the bow right where the hand sits.Whippenstick,Fox and Wes Wallace offer those with contoured grips.I have 2 Whippensticks (recurve and longbow) with that system and had the fox breed recurve as well. Its a strong system.I used the small sleeve because I like a smaller grip.It comes in large as well for those that like a bigger grip. The Whippenstick and Fox I had are pretty much flawless in fit.No slop no play and stay put.I like em

I have had the bow bolts and Great Northern Jacknifes and connexion hinges as well and they work fine. The Jacknife works very well with the longbows. The recurve wont fold up in as small a package.Thiers a little bump on the front of the riser with the jacknife. Many like it as its kinda like a locator for your grip. Some may not prefer the bump.It is small and inconsequential to me.

The connexion hinge bows will flop around a bit when unstrung. They work very well when done right by a proffesional bowyer with the right screws etc.

Bamabows uses a carbon fiber connector. I have seen it on a 103# that he had. Very solid system.
