Does anyone know how to find out the age of a Saxon American Recurve? I just acquired one, #65@28 and it is a great looking bow. It has the simple, graceful lines of a true primitive bow, but it is a rocket launcher. This is a very fast bow, and a very stable bow. I just can't seem to find any place to find out when it was made based on the serial number. Any information would be appreciated.
Not sure....but I had a Saxon TD longbow back in about 1995.....it was extremely well made.
Not sure if Randy still makes bows. Shot my first deer with one, wish I hadn't sold it.
I too have a Saxon American recurve, 64# at 28. I could be wrong but I think the penned serial number is the month and year of build.
The more I shoot this bow, the more I love it. I have shot many of the top custom brands and not a whole lot of them are memorable in traits like speed, dead in the hand feel, quiet and smooth. I've yet to install sting silencers of any kind, but the loudest part of the shot is still when I nock an arrow. The only downfall is I have been shooting a 58# bow regularly, so I can't shoot #65 with proper form for as long, yet. There is a forum on trad gang that addresses the serial number. It indicates the number of bow that you have in chronological production order of that series. That makes sense to me because I have a three digit serial number, indicating that my bow is older, probably from the mid to late 90's.

I tried saxonarchery.com and it is no longer available. If you know another web address, let me know. I did get into contact with Randy this morning though and got the info I was looking for. Everything that I've read about him being a great guy is true. It only took a minute for him to answer my tell me when my bow was made (abut 96-97), but we had a twenty plus minute conversation about traditional bow shooting and bow hunting. Anything that says he is anything but a nice guy was written by someone who is horribly misinformed.

Randy builds one of the nicest shooting and looking bows I have ever seen. If you have one you probably agree. I have never owned one that I did not love and was proud of owning. Out of all of the glass longbows I have ever shot for both performance and quality of build the Saxon American stands out obove them all.
