The Adult deer permit in Ohio is $24. They complain about the number of deer being too high then they go and charge us $24 for stinkin permit. Any other Ohioans out there a little mad about this besides myself? I believe a more reasonable price would be $12, this is the price of the youth permit.
well dont complain ours went from 20 to 30 bucks and form 12.50 to 20 for license for hunting and 20 for fishing . or 30 for combo res lic, in kentucky
68$ in NY for the super sportsman.4 deer tags,1 bear tag, 4 turkey tags, small game and fishing. The best bargain in the universe. The moneys gotta come from somewhere.
Buckeyebowhunter - The antlered permit in Ohio is, indeed, $24.00 this year, but they have added the antlerless permit for bowhunters, and they are only $15.00. Depending on which zone you're in, you can take up to 6 antlerless deer this year.
At least that's the way I read the regs this year.
BillJ
Do any of you play golf? I used to. I would spend more than that on one round & that was cheap golf. For the amount of enjoyment & the number of hour I spend afield its the cheapest game in town. JMHO, Mike
So what else could you spend $24 on and have as much fun?
I don't care if they charge $50 for a doe permit. It's still the most fun you can have for the money.
Deer license in Colorado is $31.00, then there's the application fee, 'cause there ain't no OTC deer tags anymore, and a conservation certificate, and....
Count your blessings.
Thing I like about Ohio is that I can hunt my mother's property FREE!!!!!!! How cool is that?
Lifetime in NY was the smartest thing before the last increase. I think this is my year that the purchase cost covered the sum of annual fees. And I hope at the age of 40 I got a few more years in me....

Sorry, Buckeye. No sympathy here. I buy the $62 Georgia sportsman's license every year, even though I don't fish or hunt ducks. Would be cheaper to get just archery big game and WMA. The money goes to pay for ranger and wildlife management areas, including help for securing new public land. For the most part, in-state license fees for whitetail and most other game are by far the cheapest part of hunting. Did'ja check to see how much a case of beer cost's now or a tank of gas....that lasts about a week. Good point about golf costs. Probably doesn't cost much less to go bowling for a night! Good luck, Steve
Lets see, if I wanted to hunt 1 doe.
Conservation stamp - $10.50
Archery license - $13.00
Doe tag - $19.00
If you wanna play the game, you pay the price.
Oh yeah, general deer is $31 + C stamp and archery license. $54.50
no sympathy here either to shoot one deer buck or doe is 31.00 plus a 8 or 9 dollar archery tag plus a 12 dollar wildlife certificate plus every 5 years I have to buy a 10.00 win card for my son and I to hunt this year it cost us over 110 dollars and I can only shoot 2 deer and he can only shoot 3 and he is a youth so I think you are pretty lucky Delin
A license to hunt or fish must go up in price as everything else does. As long as the money is used as it is intended, (Management of fish and wildlife) the price increase does not bother me too much.
$64 for a super combo. Includes all stamps, fishing and hunting and 3 buck 2 antlerless or vise versa depending on county. Now for a lease we are looking at about $2000 per hunter for decent acreage with game on it. Most of TX is Privatly owned as most of ya'll know.
A Tennessee sportsman is $136.00!! Since I only hunt with my bow, it's cheaper for me to buy my resident hunt/fish license, annual big game archery, and WMA stamp for a cheap $80.00!!! And that's just to hunt deer, turkey, and small game with a bow. It would be another $28.00 if I wanted to rifle hunt and another $28.00 if I hunted with a muzzleloader!! But, it goes for a good cause so what the heck.
$40 for everything here but it cost me $300 for license just to shoot pigs a couple of times in SC because I hunt public land.
We have it good here. 19$ for resident archers permit (2 deer @ 2 turkey either sex) then you can purchase the $7.00 archery antlerless tags in Missouri. No limit on harvest number. Kill as many does as you want to buy $7 tags.
We have too many deer.
In Mo $19 buys ya 2 anydeer and 2 turkey tags, after that its 7 bucks a pop for doe tags, however many $7's ya gots. (Only 1 buck before gun season). Keep talkin, you're makin me feel better bout livin in a depressed area....... :D
Ya beat me by 2 min.,JD. Need better typin skills ;)
$63 here gets you General(firearm season antlered permit), Small Game, Archery(1 of either sex depending on zone), Bear and Fishing. A second archery permit is $17 and a muzzleloader is $17(that season is also late archery so you can still use an unused archery tag instead).
Only allowed two deer a year though.
I just pay what they ask, I don't want them to know but no matter how much it is I'm going to pay it so I can go hunting.
Kansas is $30 + hunting license.
Dennis
I'm with BobW, actually, I think he got the idea from me but I won't gloat :goldtooth:
I don't know how it is in other states but here in NY when I bought mine the money for a lifetime license went into a special fund to pay for hunting lands and easements, not the general fund where it could be siphoned off by crooked politicians. Anyway, if your state offers it and you're young enough to make it worth while I would suggest doing it. It might hurt a little on the front side, but I smile every year when my license just magically appears in the mail. :jumper:
Oh yeah, one other benefit is if I ever move out of state, the license is still good as a resident. I have a friend who moved to Alaska 15 years ago and they send him his license every year like clockwork.
It's all relative. $24 won't get me to the next gas station to buy a taco in route to the woods :p :D ...Van
yikes...you must dig ditches for a living in a state with very low minimum wages.
How much do you spend on movie tickets? Your bow? Fishing rods?
The money you spend on licenses goes to pay for the salaries of the natural resource guys who help keep poachers in court, work to keep your wildlife populations in balance, set the seasons, fight with politicians, to protect your right to keep spending 24 bucks for a license.
Pay it and enjoy....62 dollars in GA, 200 dollars in SC, just spent about twice that much for caribou tags in Quebec, and 100 bucks plus license fees in Quebec for a spring bear tag
In Oklahoma it's like this:
Annual Combination (H&F) = $37
Archery Tag 20 (per deer)
Rifle 20 "
Muzzleloader 20 "
Turkey (Spring & Fall) 10 each season
Special Antlerless Deer 20 (December 3day seasons)
That's $127 before you hunt ducks.
Two years ago I bought an over age 60 lifetime license. I figure if I hunt eight more years it will have cost me $12.70 per year. And if I leave the state my license is still good.
The regular lifetime combination is $775. If you're forty and hunt until you're 70, do the math. I know it's hard to get that kind of money together in one batch, but you'd spend it on a new bow in a minute.

It seems that most states east of the Mississippi have complicated rules: Different dates for Region this, Zone that, except this WMA, including that WMA, north of this road, east of that road, special permit needed, blah, blah, blah...
In Tennessee, most of the regs say, "Except Lifetime and Sportsman's license holders." So I just pony up the $136. Insane... but cheaper that shooting golfs! (Never did find a good recipe for them...)
From Buckeye to Buckeye....It is worth it if it keeps us with land to hunt on.
here in Virginia it will cost you $54. for all your permits to bowhunt(resident). with that you get 6 deer tags, 3 turkey tags and 1 black bear. if you want to hunt with a black powder or Xgun those will cost an additional $18. each same as archery.
Not one bit. We don't rely on tax dollars to supplement the DOW. The grease in Columbus can't touch our hunting dollars. I'd pay twice that and keep smiling. Game quality, numbers, seasons, and public access in Ohio are worth every penny.
Sorry, I think thats pretty cheap.. you wouldnt want to live in colorado.
Here in West Virginia, I think we may have the best deal for residents, Sportsman package is $33
That lets you fish, small game hunt, trap, migratory bird hunt, kill one wild boar, kill a buck with a gun, either sex with a muzzleloader, either sex with a bow, and 3 turkey all this is on either private or state owned WMA or national forest. For $10 more you can kill a bear. And we still have people complain!
Now that I read what I typed, it's no wonder us Game wardens here are making peanuts! Steve :knothead:
I also buy the $136.00 TN Sportsman license, and I hunt with all three weapons. I also hunt in a "Liberal" county and am allowed 3 does PER DAY all season long! Not a bad deal with all of the hunting and fishing that is covered with one, simple license.
Kurt
I bought a $19 2007 general hunting license when I picked up my Ohio resident Special deer permit and antlerless permit. Then when I got home I realized I had already bought one before turkey season this year. No worries...I just donated money to a good cause.
For a while there it took over 75 dollars just to fill up my tank. The tag is cheap.
a six pack of the beer my wife likes to drink is about 8 dolars. That would make a case of it 32 dollars. The tag is cheap.
Go ANYWHERE out of state. Over the counter elk tags in Colorado, one of the less expensive areas, is about 500 dollars now.... The tag is cheap.
I understand your grief, but I think maybe you aren't looking at the whole picture.
ChuckC
With all the public land available for me to hunt I believe that the 50 buck sportsman license is a good deal here in SC.
48.00 here in texas for a combo. It is ridiculous they go up every year then we have to buy a salt water stamp, archery stamp, turkey stamp, and a muzzleloading stamp, and to top it off, if you hunt turkey you also have to have a upland game bird stamp in addition to the turkey stamp. Can you say hidden tax. stamp me to death!
Its 32.00 Here in Mississippi for a sportsmans lic. Its an extra 15.00 to hunt WMAs, but it sure is worth it. I'm fixin to move to Virginia and I am not looking forward to paying that much each year (120.00 for sportsman's?). It certainly has to limit the number of less than serious hunters. But ya'll are right - its going to a good cause.
$ 95.00 for sportsman's license in Ky. Good luck in the woods.
DR
$27.50 Iowa res. used to be $15.00, me and two boys just starting to hunt it gets expensive fast.
Boy I for one am DARN happy to have the PRIVILAGE to Hunt..... :goldtooth:
Sorry buckeyebowhunter...$24 for a deer permit and 4 months of bowhunting is a bargain. And remember that the Ohio DOW is funded by license and permit fees and they are the reason you have a large and healthy deer herd in this state.
Ohio NR was $125 with an additional $25 for the second deer permit. I'm sure those have gone up.
Still worth the price of admission for me!!!!!!!
I never have complained about the price of hunting. Be thankful you live in a country where you can hunt.
Man, if it were not for us hunters and the money we spend on hunting, where would we be. We are living the hay days of hunting because of the money spent on tags and licences.
I dont no what they cost here in WV. I have life time licens and they have paid for there self several years ago. I never have to buy them again and I am just 48. I do have to buy extra tages for extra deer which is 20 bucks. lol and a $10.oo bear stamp. I cant do anything else this cheap. I also cant do anything that I love as much. Sounds like you dont have it that bad.
I have no problems with a $24 fee. It's the best entertainment ticket in town and the money goes to a good cause.
KPaul
Here in WI the license/extra doe tag prices are ok. The only thing that is a little ridiculous is the bear tag drawing. You gotta pay every year and are supposed to get one at least every seven years, but I know some folks that have paid and waited for eleven years. That's a little ridiculous(imo)especially since there's a lot of bears up here, even to the point where they are becoming a nuisance.
Yup, I echo everyone else's sentiments. I think all of our hunting fees are pretty cheap for the amount of time and pleasure we get doing it. $68 here in NY and worth every penny! Shawn
I have no problem with the $24 price tag. My PROBLEM is that the year before I turned 65 "they" changed the laws on me. Was at 65 you got your licenses FREE. It was change to you have to pay 1/2 price now. What's with that. Us ole poop's deserve a free licence!!!!!!
I don't mind paying for the license in WI but I do mind when that money is channeled into areas that do not support the outdoors or the enhancement of wildlife in general.
Your other option is to hunt without the license.
Doubt that works out for ya' though!
It'll really cost you after the possum cops done with you! :readit:
No sympathy here. In NE, I generally buy 2 either-sex permits and 2 antlerless only tags (4x$28), plus an antelope tag ($28) plus habitat stamp ($15?), plus fishing license, plus a waterfowl stamp in case I get a crack at a duck or goose on the marsh and I want to be legal.
As so many others have said, hunting is the best entertainment value in town. $24 is the cost of pizza and beer (or soda)...ONCE. $24 pays for two new-fangled broadheads.
Hey I just paid the state of Colorado $500 to hunt on FEDERAL ground. Something about that bothers me, but I still do it. Wished all that money went to wildlife management but it doesn't. Gets pork barreled into other crap. Welcome to the Land of the Free.
What I don't get is that I see all those trucks going west to pay the big bucks to hunt on ground that is owned by us, but we still have to dance with whatever state that is holding us hostage. The same things goes on here in Illinois: an out of state tag costs 325 to bowhunt whitetails. I don't mind paying to hunt ANYWHERE, and I'm fortunate enough to have the money to do it. But when I try to get some of my friends that are less fortunate than me to go out of state to hunt, the cost is an issue. Does anyone know of a breakdown of where the money goes? Bet you can't find one, and I bet that only a small part of it goes back to habitat management, game wardens, and into the wildlife budget. Last week I met a Ranger who said that the primitive campground I use as a basecamp might have to close. They don't have money in their budget to pay for maintainence. How could that be at $500 a tag??? That money is going somewhere, and it makes me want to puke to know that we are giving OUR money to projects and budgets that have NOTHING to do with hunting and fishing.
$300 for a non-resident deer license in Texas. I didn't want one that bad.
Hey guys I complaining about the people complaining about our deer population being too high but every year they move the price up. I'm not saying I'm too poor too afford this, and I'll pay it every year. But maybe they should stop complainin about the deer herds if they want to move the tag prices up.
Another thing that bothers me is that I have to buy tags to hunt on my grandfathers land, but I dont have to buy a license. What is the purpose of this. Youd think it would be the other way around.
Sorry...no sympathy here...
Resident CA hunting license $37.30
Resident First Deer Tag $24.95
Resident Second Deer Tag $31.00
Resident Pig Tag $17.85
Upland Bird Stamp $7.60
We can kill only bucks in our general seasons. Does are in special draw hunts only. Pigs used to be 5 tags for $7.50 in a booklet...Now they are $17.85 EACH!
Turkeys are good though...you can hunt them with an upland bird stamp on your hunting license for 7.60 per year and take up to 4 birds per year between the two seasons. And hunt dove, quail and pheasant, rabbits and squirrels.
So for the grand total of $118.70, depending on how many pig tags I want throughout the year, times two for my wife for $237.40, I get our licenses, four deer tags (buck only, forked horn or better), two pig tags and a shot at eight turkeys between us.
And I pay it happily! Sure I groan about the pig tags...the only reason they went up in price is because DF&G figured out how popular they are to hunt! We have many, many, of them. The state just wants it's cut. Like I said, I pay it happily. If we are lucky and connect on all of our opportunities then the freezer stays full and we're eating the best protein $237.40 can buy. Not to mention the time spent in God's country with family and friends.
