What a fabulous weekend it proved to be in my neck of the woods.
I took my son, Walker, hunting with me Saturday morning and saw 3 bucks and 2 does. One buck was a good one. Listening to Walker nearly hyperventilate was the highlight. That evening I again saw 3 bucks and 2 does. This time, one was a BIG one. He locked up on me at 30 yards, but I think I will have him on trail cam.
Sunday morning I returned to the same stand I sat the previous evening, which is in a textbook funnel with ridiculously easy, stealthy access. At 7 I had a doe run past at a dead run and 40 yards behind her a buck that appeared to be good enough. I didn't have time to study. Only 6 or 7 seconds passed between the time I saw him until the moment I shot him.
My son, Walker, came along to "help" retrieve

When faced with tall, slippery, nearly vertical creekbank lined with jagged, rebar-laden concrete it pays to have friends with cool toys!

Congrats on a great deer. Don't think Walker will forget anytime soon either. Don't recognize the bow make, but it appears to be an older metal riser take-down or possibly an ILF with a camo job?
beautiful buck and great story!!

So you shot him running at about 40 yards? If so, that's one heck of a shot, bro! Congrats on making memories that will last a lifetime.....

Thanks guys.
Later I'll post a picture of the "muscle" I used to complete the retrieval.
The bow is a Bear metal riser retrofitted with ILF Morrison carbon foam limbs.
The shot was 8 yards.
