I've seen a lot more deer from stand so far this season than normal, but nothing ever presented the shot I was looking for. Finally, this past Saturday morning, a little 6pt made it's way in to me feeding on acorns and showing a littl attention to a pair of does that were around me.
The last 2 years I've hunted with traditional only and, while I've had success, I've had some misses that were pretty frustrating. This was very nearly one of those. Simply put -- I got lucky. The deer was completely calm, head down browsing when I shot. He ducked and wheeled to run and th arrow went in behind the shoulder -- only by the time the arrow got there he had spun 90 degrees and it went in behind the shoulder, took out 1 lung and came out the front of the neck. It severed his main artery and his windpipe so it was a 60 yard dead run -- easy recovery, 6 feet wide blodd spray!
None-the-less, I got a quick kill, some good young meat in the freezer, and a bloody arrow!
Kind of neat in that his left antler still had the velvet on it, all dried up and hanging in shreds -- odd for this late in the year, but cool and unique all the same.

I want to thank you for this post because this is the first year I have gone trad only. I have killed one deer with my longbow before, but this year with a recurve I shoot better than my longbow, I've missed a couple times. It's frustrating (I know my mistake; I just need to not make it.), but it's comforting knowing I'm not completely a lost cause.
Congratulations.
Nice buck.
Thanks for sharing.
