Title: Carbon tip weight??
Post by: Fleatrap1 on November 03, 2013, 10:32:00 PM
I fletched up some 1535 goldtips and cut them down to 27.5" with 160gr zwicky's in front they fly great in I am using them this season for deer hunting.

Now looking ahead to the rest of the year I can't find a 160 screw in field tip???  I guess 150's would do the job for practice, is there any way for me to add 10 grains to the front of these arrows??

Use some small brass washers.

Try these from 3-Rivers! I use them to get my 145gr field points upto 150gr.

The GT insert is threaded in the back to accept supplemental weights.  Points are 145 grain.  Supplemental weights are 20 grains. That gets you very close.  I suppose you could grind off another 5 grains from the supplemental weight if you wanted to be exact.

i thought you guys must be good to notice 10gr! then i saw bicsh mention 5gr!! I shoot 4" groups at 20 yards and i have to change by 50 or more to notice any difference. they still group.

100gr might see a couple inches movement at 20 yards.

carbons are very very forgiving of weight changes at the front.

Get the 175g pts as they will be the closest to your set up. Providing you are fairly close on your tuning, that slight difference in weight on field pts won't make enough of a difference to really notice. When someone tells you 15 gs is throwing them off badly, quit taking their advice.

I kind of wondered if I could even tell a difference +/-10 grains.  As of right now I have only shot my broadheads on these arrows, using a spine calculator off 3rivers to get me close.  They shoot quite well.

Thanks everyone!

I'm pretty sure I don't notice the 5gr difference. It is just that my broadheads are 150gr and my fiels points are 145gr and it bugs me that they are different. 3Rivers sells the 5gr brass washers, so I buy them and use them to make everything match up!
