Title: what does your deer camp look like this year!
Post by: edge2009 on October 31, 2013, 08:01:00 PM
I always love seeing others hunt camp whether it be an awesome cabin in the mountains with all the gizmos or even the single man tents with a fire. I appreciate them all and absolutely love seeing em! I'm a young(er) man early in life and don't have any opportunities to visit or have a "camp". Can't wait until I can though!

So show me your camp this year, no matter how big or where!

Thanks
Jake

Knawbone, that is very unique and amazing. I like the look of it. How is something like that comparable price wise to a camper or what not. I'm very interested in that.

edge, I built it near my pond on my wild land. It's made of 13 maple poles covered with chicken wire and then roofing felt. The wire and felt cost me about 4 or 5 hundred dollars and have only had to replace a couple pieces of felt from bears taring it off. I built it 3 years ago. The maple saplings I cut near the sight and the floor is flat field stone set in sifted dirt. I payed 25.00 for the wood stove.I'm in the process of making the inner liner out of old and new bed sheets. The base is 20 ft in dim. and it stands about 25 ft tall.

I haven't enjoyed a white-tail deer camp since college, 40 years ago. I miss it.

I have spent some time in mulie, antelope, and elk (DIY) camps but alas, I have no pictures.

That is on a club that I got in this year.  It is on 6000 acres.  The main camp is not very far in and is down in the valley.  This is the other camp that nobody stays at.  It is a few miles in and close to the middle of the property.  I like to be in away from the generators and radios and stuff.

I have hunted Freedom Hills WMA and Black Warrior WMA a few times but mostly private land.  I have a cabin on my family's land that I will post here sometime.

Al woodsman, I've been wanting to do a DIY hunt/camp trip on eufaula WMA but can never keep a group together when we plan it. The past two years somebody pulls out due to funds, car issue, etc.

Would love to see the family's land!

Jake ... I say go for it alone if you have to. Some of my best times hunting are alone when you can really start to become a part of the landscape and the woods. If you wait for other people to get on board you'll be waiting a loing time.

I wish I could say I own this cabin but it's at a campground halfway between two of our properties.
A/C or heat, tv, porch swing, bunkbeds, bathroom, sink, stove. Beats a crumby hotel any day of the week! All it's missing is a Michigan Wolverines banner. (college football's winningest program and the only big ten team with a winning record versus the SEC)    (http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn66/tarponnut/cabin.jpg) (http://s301.photobucket.com/user/tarponnut/media/cabin.jpg.html)

Cast iron, is that on private property or public land? I see some of these camps and wonder how in the world you guys get them up and down each year multiple times. A tent is usually the extent of my "camp"

Edge,
this pix is of private land but I set it up pretty much the same at LBL and other public land even Colorado as long as I can drive to the spot for base camp I usually will not set this much camp unless I am staying 8 to 10 days,
weekend hunts I might just sleep in the truck bed  ;)

this pix is of private land but I set it up pretty much the same at LBL and other public land even Colorado as long as I can drive to the spot for base camp I usually will not set this much camp unless I am staying 8 to 10 days,

Man oh man, I admire that! Really cool stuff! I bet its nothing short of a blast hunting like that. Good stuff.

Here's a few pics I've taken around camp that I finally uploaded. Some are from last weekend and a few are from trips up just to relax...

Hope to have a little shack here soon.

The fire pit and my redneck rain fly.

Hiding out behind camp in a blind above some spring-fed ponds and the river:

The view toward the trail they sneak in on:
