Title: Hunting the wrong areas
Post by: laxbowman on October 31, 2013, 09:50:00 AM
Most of my hunting takes place in farm country, or big state forrests and parks.

I guess i should rethink my strategy a little bit

I recently moved to Cincinnati to start a new job.  Snapped a pic of this guy tuesday after work in Hyde Park which if you're familiar with Cincinnati, you'll know how close it is to downtown.  If not then check it out.

Wouldnt mind seein this bruiser at my actual hunting spots.

Happy hunting! -John

Nice... a problem with many metro areas.  Deer still live there, and with no hunting and no real natural predators, they often get BIG.  This very often causes folks to do that which they normally wouldn't do and sneak a way to take the deer.

Thanks for sharing.

Heck is that house for sale or rent you might be able to get a new hunting lease. Nice buck I don't think many would pass him up in the right areas.

That's one reason why I hunt on base!! The best spots are in the "bow only" areas next to base housing, the golf course, or hospital. That and it's illegal to use deer dogs on base.

Around here, we call those big city dwellers "birdfeeder bucks".

Oooooooooo man hes fine. I often wonder about Detroit and other cities with all of the abandoned properties, how many bigguns are sharing the blocks with fiends and pushers?

My cousin has a special bow permit for culling deer in those suburban parks out there in the Cincinnati area. In the past couple years he has taken some huge buks.

I do the majority of my hunting in the suburbs of Cleveland.  Knock on doors in that area, you would be surprised how often city folks say yes to hunting in their yards to protect their lawns.  My favorite stand is on top of a gym set on a two acre property, have killed 5 deer there the last 2 years and I can see the skyline of Cleveland

I hunted on the outskirts of Cincinnati with a friend about 5 years ago. It was close to a land field with houses all around. The only thing I didn't like was that we were so close to the interstate that it was hard to hear. I seen several great bucks in 4 days there. Never got a shot but it was fun seeing all them bucks.

I have to shoo the deer out of my yard regularly. They are pretty tame here in town. I took this out my kitchen window a month or so ago...

My whitetail and turkey hunting is right on the edge of town. Suburban hunting can be pretty good.
