What is your opinion on hunting ridges Mornings or evenings??
I'm guessing you are meaning the very tops of ridges?
If so I would hunt it in the mornings. I have seen buck rub and scrape ridge tops often. And mountain deer seem to travel the tops or 1/3 of way down paralleling the top
If the deer are moving up from below to feed on top I would hunt mornings while thermal currents are rising. Evenings, thermals will drop as the air cools carrying your scent to deer below you. If your ridge is large enough there may be deer up there all day and thermals may not matter as much. Guess it depends on the ridge.
Anytime.......I like to get on top and then work the wind and bump the edges on either side. Go to the left look down hill, glass and back off. Then go to right and repeat. Move up or down the ridge 30-40 yards and repeat. Can make for an interesting hunt. Give it a try.......
Yes and Yes.
During the rut I have found Bucks will cruse areas where they can see, bucks will travel the ridges and look for does.....
Another thing......the only thing better than a ridge is a ridge that has a good mast crop. They will feed and bed on and off all day!
They are both good! Just depends on the wind.
Yes all the time. I like the ends of the ridge.
I prefer to hunt the flats in the bottoms where a couple of ridges come together.
Look about four feet from the top of your ridges. There may well be a deer trail leading along the ridge. It allows a deer to look over, across the ridge, only exposing its eyes and headgear.
