09/06/13 I torn my Distal bicep tendon (Where bicep attaches to the forearm)The 10th I had surgery to repair it and it is a long recovery time for healing. Up until the 6th I had been shooting my 1971, 56# bear k-mag out to 30 yards and was able to keep my 3 arrow groups in a paper plate. Now I'm sitting here with 42*s, an east wind, a fantastic sunrise waiting to get in the shower so I smell good for my physical therapist, whom I have to see in an hr. It really sucks!!!!!!!!!! Rut is getting ready to fire up soon and I'll be watching from the sidelines. Anyone had the same injury and were you able to shoot the same amount of weight over time?
Sorry to hear about your injury. I cant comment on your question about getting back to your old hunting weight bow.I do have a suggestion though. If you or a friend have a video camera. Learn to use it and go hunt/video a friend. It is a lot of fun! You get to be a part of the hunt just as if you had the bow.It can be just about as challenging. Believe me laying down good video is not easy. Just a thought.

Yeah, I agree, make lemonade. Make or buy a ghillie suit, then grab a camera and go out there anyway. Be careful, be safe, but go and be a part of it. Maybe learn some new techniques.

Been there, done that. Tore my bicep on my bow arm in 2006, but I was back to shooting 60# in a few months. It still looks weird, but it works OK.
I'm half scared to even enter the woods. Short term disabilty does not pay so well and I'm fearful of a slip and fall scenario. Probably being overly cautious but x mas is coming and my girls are on my mind for that. I should be back to work by the end of Nov. Centaur, glad everything worked out for you, hopefully I can say the same by turkey season! (maybe late bow season ;)
MRI showed a partial thickness tear of my left bicep in 2010. Being muscle, not tendon, no surgery was required but even with a good PT recovery was fairly lengthy. You don't realize how much these muscles and tendons work, not just to lift something, but also as stabilization for other movements. The only advice I can add other than to give it enough time is to make the bow as "dead in the hand" as possible because your bicep is also responsible for the rotation of your forearm and a shockey bow will aggravate it. Best of luck.
I'm sorry about your bad situation. I totally feel your pain. Last year, I took vacation in November for the rut. My knee went out just prior to my vacation and I missed rut and a large part of archery season. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to miss the entire archery season. I hope you have a speedy recovery!
Yep..it's no fun..been out about 3 wks with another heart attack, but just getting back a couple days ago. Taking a day off today to rest my legs..still not 100& strength wise and going way back in takes a lot out of me.
